When Red Velvet debuted Yeri was still only 14 (or possibly had just turned 15). I don't know if they've ever had an official statement of why they had her join.

However, some theories were that she was either too young, or needed more training time.

Thank you, very interesting. Since I didn't like RV until Birthday and am kind of working my way backwards it's hard to imagine Yeri not being there. She's my 2nd or 3rd fav, it's a battle between her and Joy atm.

You should venture into Irene & Seulgi sub-unit territory; also Wendy solo, Joy solo n Seulgi solo. For some reason i dont stan Red Velvet full grp or sos but only Aseul(Red Velvet Irene & Seulgi short form nickname-derived from I(=A)+Seul.

Watch level up thrilling project for Aseul, or seasons 1-3, 5 for red velvet content(if ur into tat sort of thing). Welcome to reveluv-ieness.

Funny story, I owned Joy's Hello and bought it when it debut having no idea she was in RV... I just love the song Hello. It wasn't until Birthday that I fell in love with RV and realized the connection.

Red Velvet was a Group of 4 originally, during Birthday cake era Yeri was added to the group
( people consistently hated her and were angry at SM for adding her and some 'fans' kept saying she ruined the group, but we love Yeri <3 )

The only 3 I can postively identify are Wendy, Joy and Yeri. I can't tell Seulgi and Irene apart yet (They are both very pretty regardless though).

When it comes to Seulgi, her eyes are much sharper compared to Irene, Irene has a softer Tone to her visual as compared to Seulgi.

and in this bottom photo you can see that their jaw line is very different

Others have already answered, but I will add a few points.

SM waited for Yeri to turn 16 before adding her to the roster. She turned 16 on March 5th, 2015 and debut with Ice Cream Cake on March 17th, 2015. That's really all there is to it. They were always going to be a 5 member group.

Yeris folks would not let her join until after she turned 16 and finished junior high. Thus her birthday is march 5 and ICC came out march 17 also eh groups first album as teh other songs are digital singles.

She was clearly in the group plans from teh start SM Easter egged her here in this video i time marked it. This video was shot pre happiness release.
You can hear the members call her to practice.



Teh feeling has always been they rushed Rv to debut (like no teasers time ect.) to help distract fromteh Taeyon Baek thing and just to flat get irene and Seulgi actually working.
