I would say maybe 50%, but some may be 100%. depending.

You got to watch what you do and say ya know? idk. so you can be yourself, but not 100%. or some people are their 100%.

I guess it really depend on the person! Same certainly have to change more than others.. so I would not be surprised if you have some idols that change only 10-20% and just tone down some stuff, while others may change up 80-100% about them

We also have to keep in mind, some idols also get certain roles assigend by the labels, that may also force them to change their personality :sanapray:

I know BoA has to change her look and transform if you will, a lot.
Like most of her albums she never looks the same as before.

and what she wears differs alongside her hair, make up etc.

it's not depends on the person but more like the agency's decision ig.
how they(the company) wants to shape the group's concept in the public eye, so they have to put some images on those idols even if the idols themselves are not actually happy with that personality.
we've seen a lot idols are happier, more expressive, enjoy their life after their group disbanded or just get out from the company right?

I was going to mention this on my first post, but I kind of forgot.
Glad to see this was discussed

Kind of? It depends on the person. Kai makes a clear distinction between Jongin the person and Kai the idol and how they are very different. But Jaehyun has said he doesn't see a difference between Yuno the person and Jaehyun the performer. That said, he's also talked honestly about the pressure to be perfect as an idol, particularly when SM wanted to cast him as the perfect prince.

I do think idols may sometimes try to conform to the company's idea of personas but that seems to fall off pretty quickly as they age or unable to hide their true colors. I remember when SM tried to position Taeyong (a super sweet and gentle artistic guy who likes SpongeBob and pink) as this cold bad boy tough guy. :pepesmug:

i wouldn't say transforming into a new person, more like in certain cases creating a public image since there are idols who are a different person on and off camera (which is sometimes sadly for the worse). there are some idols which said that the company told them to act a certain way for the sake of their "image" but that doesn't always change them as people.
