It may not be the norm but there are gg‘s that have been active for years.

And honestly one of the reasons why more gg‘s disband is more about the public loosing interest in gg‘s more while bg‘s always have way bigger fandom powers.

There are gg‘s tough that have a huge fandom too but honestly if you look at what has gotten viral and huge it is mostly a gg song or a gg choreography.

This as well as if a girl group member wants a family then that'll cause them to drop out too since they'll be expected in most cases I imagine to be a stay at home mom unless they make more than the boy group member they are dating.

Sounds brutal, but age probably has to do with it, especially those that have mainly male fandoms who prefer younger female idols.

Some female groups break that tradition though, which is great (happy eighth anniversary to Apink too for today!)

Similar as what others have said. I think ageism hits female artists more, you sometimes hear people saying how Super Junior is Super Ahjussis or sth like that, but I think in general older male idols are still seen as pretty good-looking, I mean artists like Super Junior, TVXQ, Big Bang and 2PM, when people start saying female idol is too old when they hit 25 or sth like that. Like there has been non-stop discussion of Irene's age, how she's ahjumma and too old for the group.

Then it's fan loyalty, some male fans seem to chance more easily to younger newer groups when female fans seems to be more loyal in general (which is why it's also easier for male idols to get through scandals, they get more support from fandom I think). Female artists in general have smaller fandoms and more casual listeners, so no wonder they have less loyal fans then.

And I also think companies are following this too, they are more easily replacing older girl groups with newer to keep themselves on game. Many of older girl groups that were suddenly disbanded or haven't had comeback in ages still got it, I mean they have the talent, they even have fandom- but company has shifted their focus on newer and younger girls.

Apink and snsd have decent fandoms so they last. Ggs dont attract fangirls therefore no fandom unless you're snsd

Davichi is another one that has lasted but it is a duo.

First to last they have to
A. get to the end of the first contract with some popularity/relevance left. This is actually hard.
B. want to keep going on

Sistar
could have gone on but chose not to.
Mostly the GG members want to do something else be it act solo ect.
Someone like MMM could last even if they broke up similar to BEG.

Being in most groups is good pay but, i would assume not fantastic.
GG have far more popular songs but i am not sure about the financial model for a 2nd tier or lower group.
Take a EXID how much do they tour or do outside revenue making.
Everyone loves say OC but aside from Nana do any of them have much other work ever?

That's honestly true, girl groups have it way harsher than boy groups. Boy groups fans usually have more loyal fans. In girl groups, they always replace them when they get older.

The sad and harsh truth is because Korean male fans are super disloyal. Once girl groups near the age of 25-30, they start to move on to younger talent. The ageism is real. There are anomalies like Apink but look how much their sales have declined over the years. It's another sad reality for women in the industry.

Sexism and ageism. Sadly girl groups are extremely affected by how male fans view them. Apink and SNSD do well because they appeal to both genders and female fans will be loyal to them. Plus it could be that the idols want to move on and do other projects they find meaningful or interesting. Or even have a normal life.

For the exceptions, fans such as this beautiful Soshi keep girl groups alive.
