What are some things about kpop that would be really hard to explain to a non-fan? (1 Viewer)

The first one is easy to explain. Western media has tons of survival shows, and altho it doesn't involve music groups, but there is an entire show where they force ppl to Marry based on like 2 weeks of knowing eachother or smth, LOVE IS BLIND. I think that's crazier to explain than this.

The second one u can only explain by admitting fans are delulu.

Third is fairly easily explained too, except in other industries u don't get cancelled completely even if you beat your gf or u we're in jail for a felony....
False rumours is so bullshit tho...

For me the hardest thing is to explain collecting and merch... "why do u need small cards of ur singer ? And multiple of them?"

mmh but there are shows like american idol or the voice and probably a few thousand more, so you can even give planty of example with music related shows

• The fact that people have gotten kicked out of their groups/companies due to bullying and false rumours​

I think the hardest thing to explain to non-fans is how different the industry is over in the east compared to the west
Another is explain that it is a KOREAN BASED INDUSTRY, NOT CHINESE, and that not every idol is korean
Explaining what the Big 4 is can be a bit exhausting for newbies sometimes
Also explaining how different the albums are from Kpop as opposed to a western artists albums

shipping, western groups also deal w shipping but the amount that kpop fans do it is crazy, both idols from the same group and other groups
knowing an idols weight
the craze abt pcs
fancalls and the huge fanmeets where the amt of albums you buy increases your chance of meeting the idol
personal messaging apps where you pay to receive messages from idols
idol dorms and knowing their room arrangements

I wouldn't necessarily list the survival show thing as one of them, just because there's also shows like American Idol (which Kelly Clarkson was on) and The Voice (Morgan Wallen's show). Sure, these shows don't always spawn big talent, but they do exist outside of K-pop.

But what I would put on there is:

-the temp group concept (even I have a hard time grasping the point of it)
-multiple comebacks a year instead of once every couple years (in all likelihood ofc lol)
-the dating-is-taboo rule
-the fact that these artists don't have as much creative freedom as Western artists
-how K-pop groups are formed vs. Western groups, who were more likely put together bc they were already friends/siblings
-lightsticks and fanchants
-the concept of photocards and collecting them
-that concerts are three hours long and only have the headlining act with no opener
-"title track" referring to the lead single, not (always) the track with the same name as the album
-the training process

There's probably more, but I'll stop there.

Oh I thought you meant kpop fans are unusual for talking about new news in general topics Like yeah they don’t talk about new kpop news but they do other new news but what you’re saying makes more sense
