On monday I have surgery. I got a call letting me know that my out of pocket expese is $3600.00 instead of the $350.00 I was expecting because I have to pay 20% out of pocket until I hit my Maximum out of pocket of 5k. This means it's an 18,000.00 dollar surgery. So here's what gets me. If I wait because I can't afford that and I end up with strangulated intestins it becomes 100's of thousands of dollars in medical expenses. My maximum out of pocket is still 5k so I wouldn't ever pay more than that. Makes me want to wait and make the insurance company pay more but then it becomes life threatening... But they have a payment plan! I love the US... most of the time. It's also kind of jacked because if I had no job it would all simply be covered my Medicaid... So, in this case, having a job is costing me a lot of money.

In an emergency life saving care is rendered and has to be by law. Payment is figured out later. This is insurance companies hoping you just go away.

This is called calculated denial. They can't say no but they can make the cost higher than most can pay, thus denying your average citizen. Why can it be covered by Medicaid, where people have zero co pay and zero out of pocket but not the same when you go the extra mile to get a job and support yourself. I think thats the frustration.

because dr's nurse's and hospital are pricey. as is teh insurance they all have to carry.
Let alone that the current laws were written by the health insurance companies so that they would always get paid.
a day in icu is > 10k.

the money has to come from somewhere if suddenly all surgeries become free. So I asked if she wanted it to come from taxes because you can’t just make all surgeries free out of nowhere, it’s not as simple as that

Honestly I’m not too versed in Medicaid what requirements besides income level do people need to get on it?

are people who are unemployed and not job seeking and don’t get pension or disability checks able to get Medicaid?

Really, if you don't have a job you qualify. I qualified being a college student as well even if I got a job up to a certain earnings range. Everyone shits on Obama care but the man did something no former president ever did and really hasn't done since and that's care about peoples access to health care.

Every single citizen in this country, while located within the boarder of the country is required by law to have health insurance. Medicaid or Medical if your in California covers you, you just have to sign up for it.
