when do dresscode get too strict? (1 Viewer)

i only have three pair of shorts from last summer that still fits me, but i can't wear any of them to my school trip because they are "too short". i sincerely do not go out of my way to break dresscode, but with these expectations i can't wear anything and what they sell at the stores is all the same "too short" lenght. it's seriously tiring and when you ask the adults whether or not your outfit would be breaking dresscode, they can never give a straight answer. because it doesn't make any sense. and all that to make the teachers comfortable to be besides us.​

I remember when in middle school a girl got told her shorts were too short when they were past mid thigh easily (don't remember the exact specifications the school had but there was no way people would ever look at them and think they're short). And that great time when we had a dresscode talk with our principal (some old guy) and he said leggings are now banned and about how from his window he can see us getting on the bus in leggings and how he got "quite a show" This was in middle school. It would be wtf anyways but the age just makes it extra wtf.

i hate when leggings are banned in schools they're super comfortable, our legs are completely covered and we still can't be left alone wearing what makes us happy

The only times I can get banning certain clothing is stuff that promotes violence and other criminal activity (ex. I get banning swastikas or stuff like that). But banning stuff like spaghettis straps or calling any shorts above knee length too short or things like that I find stupid.

Big earrings were a no-no in all school levels as they were supposedly a distraction. I don't think taking 30 seconds to compliment someone's gold hoop earrings is a big deal. It's not like time stops and a crowd of people circle the person.

I also think all-black shoes is doing too much. We were in uniform, so you could at least include white and grey into that. I don't like dress shoes and it was hard finding all-black sneakers.

There was also that whole fingertip test for shorts and skirts. Not taking into account how we all have different body types.

If shoulders, legs, and bra straps are distracting, that's a personal problem.
If you're a staff member with the distraction, resign.

I only ever been to private school, so I wore uniforms. The teachers was pretty strict with the length of our skirt, which is funny because I was a cheerleader and the uniform is short.

In elementary school though I did went to a Catholic school and they had some pretty strict dress code like no make up, no jewelry, no accessories, no nail polish, the boys are not allowed to wear earrings. Our hair have to be in our natural hair colors and no extreme haircuts. Our clothes had to be clean and iron.

schools here dont have a dresscode, so I never had that problem
