The story doesn't sound right. Even if you needed to go badly, wouldn't it make more sense to stop on the side of the road? Nobody stops in the middle of the road, unless they're a complete idiot. He has to be lying. There was probably some sort of arguing going on in that car and perhaps she was in some sort of abusive relationship with him. That would be my best guess, though obviously I don't know the real truth.
