It's only a mess if he's innocent if you declare him guilty and refuse to change your mind since at the end of the day changing your mind on a case as evidence is given is how things should be done. The problem is that people see the first part of something that they base their opinion on and ignore the rest of it which would change that opinion or just refuse to change their opinion in the light of damning evidence.
