I already asked what you're thankful for lol but how are you going to spend your Thanksgiving?

My uncle is coming to town from Illinois, and my parents and I are taking him to a local restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner!

I'm going over to my parents' house. My parents rotate hosting with my aunt/uncle (small family), where one will host Thanksgiving and the other Christmas. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly, kinda dreading this year, tbh.

We had our thanksgiving because in October so its just a normal day for me but happy thanksgiving to those from the US

There's a mixture of personalities that mostly boil down to "being inappropriate." I've realized over the past couple of years there are basically "rules" for dealing with them that at least makes the whole thing less disappointing when it does happen, like my mom is uncomfortable when the situation is not about her, my dad's default state is to dislike things, one of my cousins is always high drama, my uncle never has new stories and people find him boring, etc. The worse (for me personally) is that making fun of me is considered a broadly acceptable topic in my family.

So since this is the first year that I'm going into the holiday without any wishful thinking that maybe things will be super nice and normal and we can be a family that all looks out for each other, it turns out, you take that optimism away, and it's just, like, oh, if I have to, I guess.

I survived with only one direct comment on my weight and three indirect comments on the food I was eating, so I'll take it.

(Also, it's weird AF to be criticized for eating the food that is served. Like you chose to provide this? Why are you criticizing me for taking some?)
