The ants use this grass for their nest. A single colony will harvest a tonne of crop. But what do they actually eat? They feed their harvest for a fugus which helps it grow and then the ants eat this fungus. The fungus produces carbon dioxide which could be deadly to the ants, so they have created a ventilation system that protects them.
