Pregaming Eurovision 25: how do we feel about the songs in general? (1 Viewer)

I haven't heard much and have been detached from the contest at large this year but I've finally listened to all the songs (except the ethnostate) and... I'm feeling weird about it.

This is like the first time I haven't heard a song I'm ride or die for. Last year it was The Code and Zari and 2023 was Cha Cha Cha but this year I got none that I wanna see win?
Some of the songs are good, I like Sweden, Estonia, Georgia, and Ukraine a lot, but I doubt with the jury they'll win. Everything else is fine to unlistenable. Even the Aussie entry I used to not like but then I heard the other entries and went 'compared to the rest this is actually good.'

I might be having whiplash from last year cause last year to me was peak and I listened to a lot after Eurovision which is something that I barely do. Maybe my expectations are too high?

That being said I listened to songs/watched their MVs and went 'yeah I can see this being staged well' so we'll see what happens when Eurovision week actually hits and if any song grows on me lmao

I wanna hear your opinions cause I haven't seen much discourse online about the contest: How are you feeling about Eurovision this year? You excited? Dissapointed from the songs? You got favourites?

to me this year is much better than 2024, i love how many songs in native languages are there and i hope for a non-english song to win... even though my favorite is czechia but even if my faves flop at least i had the chance to discover new artists and songs which is the reason why i'm into esc in the first place. i'm really excited for the contest itself especially since this year it doesn't seem like there's going to be an obvious winner like sweden in 2023. with that being said i hope we get a televote-backed winner this year so that people don't complain about jury favourites winning every year, especially when they win instead of fandom faves - the vitriol towards loreen in 2023 was awful to witness.

I think it’s good not having obvious winner but like, idk what would be? Austria is surprisingly high in the odds (to me) and I personally don’t really understand when it feels like they’re reheating Swiss’ nachos last year :/ But again we’ll see if it or anything grows on me.

i do enjoy that more countries decided to send songs in their native languages, i believe that this rule should be reinstated so we don't get boring radio pop songs (or worse - ballads). also i hope that this year the contest won't end up in a mess like last year

according to the betting odds it should be between sweden and austria, but i don't think wasted love will resonate with the casual viewers that much and juries never put an opera song 1st - like if italy 2015 didn't win with the juries then idk how austria 2025 would. also maybe it's just me but unlike with the code which people compare austria's song to, i do not feel anything while listening to it. idk but that song just sounds like an entry perfectly engineered to win the contest. and as for sweden, i love bara bada bastu and i'm glad we will not be hearing mans zelmerlow's chatgpt ass song on the eurovision stage but at the same time i think there are too many televote friendly entries for them to landslide the televote in order to win comfortably. i really want a surprise winner - i miss the shock of seeing austria 2018 lead the juries or norway 2019 getting that absurdly high televote score

I have a feeling the contest will be a mess this year as well, the continued presence of ykw + tommy cash participating basically for Joost and Kaarija may let shit hit the fan, which I think this time I welcome.
You would think with last year there would be more influence of certain country entries, and we can hear dance influences from netherlands, lithuania which is cool, but I haven't seen a song entry capture the admiration Marina Satti has for Greece. Praying someone heats up her nachos.

Yeah unicorn hasn't aged well. My Mum and I like gave up on Eurovision for like the whole year after Loreen won I'm sorry ;-; it's a fine song but the disappointment was so disappointing.
The Code has so much in it and it's hard to replicate, and it does feel like Austria saw the opera + dance beat and went 'we can do that' but it comes off as too serious imo. The Code was a celebration of joy within chaos while this one is ??? who knows honestly. I think Sweden could pull off a televote upset and I'm hoping it does cause when was the last time we had a gimmick song win? Not that it's good just because of the gimmick obviously. If their votes are split with anyone it's easily estonia me thinks.
I do think it's good that there aren't like obvious picks (though the odds are proving me wrong why is the netherlands up there!?) and I will say because I don't have much strong feelings this year it'll hopefully be a better experience during the voting.

And Sissal was even like "We are getting in the final" when she won the Danish NF.

I have heard Hallucination a lot in the Faroese radio (also even before the Danish NF)
I like that song, but yeah... it does sound almost like a generic pop song.
Even though I think Sissal is a talented singer (I have actually heard her singing a lot before she was in Danish NF and I have also seen her in a musical once some years ago)

tbh you didn't miss much so looking back it might have been a good decision to give up on ESC after loreen's win - and i'm saying that as someone who loves loreen, tattoo and swedish pop in general. the code wasn't even my favorite to win (ukraine was), but i agree that the unique structure was what made the song a contender whereas with austria it feels really forced? obviously i know that both of them are songwriting camp songs and not written 100% by artists themselves but also the lyrics about nemo's self discovery really add a lot to the song and wasted love feels very impersonal so yeah idk why people are comparing it to the code instead of like estonia 2018 or sweden 2009, other opera entries which weren't close to winning at all. tbh i don't mind netherlands' high place in the odds because i love that song but i feel like its high placing is probably due to the fact that some people think netherlands will do well after how they were treated last year and also that kind of radio friendly music is usually well received by juries or casuals - like austria 2018 winning juries out of nowhere. i also hope this year's voting is fun to watch and not just the same country receiving 12's one after another

I didn't really have the time yet.

I will say that Strobe Lights was the best pick for Belgium and is such a strong song showing off our festival culture.
Unfortunately our staging always sucks. With the right staging we have a shot in winning.
