This is from a book I am currently reading called Our Spiritual Evolution: Transcending the Third Dimension by Mark Gilbert.

“We create a culture of celebrity that holds up the beautiful and wealthy as ideal. The more we hear it, the more we believe this is what we are supposed to aspire to. If we are not as wealthy or as beautiful as the role models, again, something must be wrong with us…We need to let go of seeing ourselves as in a place of lack, not good enough, not worthy, and feeling shameful. We need to see our successes as not based on any comparison with others, but rather be driven to live the highest possible life we can live.”​

while i usually find "spiritual" books... not my thing, to put it lightly - i obviously agree and especially on the wealth part as this is exactly how i feel when i see people on social media cheer for pop stars becoming billionaires or just praising how their favourite celeb is richer than the others. it's a pathetic sight in a world where the average person is closer to being homeless than to being a billionaire.

I completely agree with your points. I believe society is often too absorbed in celebrity life to an unhealthy amount

I agree.

There's a misconception in our society that the richest people are the happiest people. To a certain extent, that's correct. But having more money doesn't automatically mean that you're happier.

However, this doesn’t mean ‘more money’ automatically means ‘more happiness’. Money may be recognised by our brains as biologically significant, but there’s an upper limit on how rewarding even biologically significant things can be. For example, eating food can often be pleasurable, but at some point you’ll be sated, after which point eating more causes actual discomfort. Same with drinking. Even things like shelter and security; build too many barriers around yourself and you can feel isolated and oppressed.

Receiving your regular pay is reassuring, but receiving unexpected money, even if it’s much less, often makes you much happier.

the quote isn't necessarily wrong but the question is how does one actually go about doing it

it's one thing to say don't worship celebrities - they have stylists and makeup and money etc etc but how does one actually go about bring up one's own self-esteem

then on the other hand pretty privilege and rich privilege is very much a thing in our society and it is society not just us individuals who deem such looks or traits as desirable and thus one should aspire to such because those people get the privilege that we "commoners" don't

who doesn't want to be bloody rich? and not even for the materialistic goods but these days with everything being so expensive how is the average person to afford a house? a car? kids (maybe)? education? EGGS? some of those things are necessary for basic day to day living - financial stress and lack of financial security is one of the biggest worries and concerns about young people these days so again who doesn't want to bloody rich...

and for certain celebrities they have the best of both worlds - they are PRETTY AND RICH
