I’d be curious to know who the 70 are :sanapray:

If Russia can get banned for political reasons, Israel should be banned as well.
Belgian-Turkish former contestant Hadise signed
The dude who won for Portugal in I think 2017?
Also, dancers and staff signed too

those are the names released by our media

good for them obviously, but i hope next time it's the broadcasters who take action in a longer notice than a week before the show. ebu didn't even want to ban russia until multiple countries' broadcasters threatened to withdraw unless they did so. this year i think slovenia, spain and iceland (?) called to reconsider israel's participation.

What is the mission of the Contest?

The Eurovision Song Contest is a long running non-political, entertainment event which is designed to bring audiences and countries together.

Yeah and it was never non-political at the first place.

That's the reason why I don't watch that show anymore. It should be about music, not about politics. Those artists from Russia and Israel didn't start a war. Even if they would promote it in their songs (I doubt that it would happen), people can vote for someone else. Bans of musicians (and athletes in Olympic Games) don't end wars.

I dont agree with you. eurovision was implemented after ww2 to celebrate peace and unite europe.
to let countries perform that start wars in europe is basically against the meaning of the competition, so
I`m in favor for israel and russia being banned from esc. in the end those singers perform to represent their country.
for some countries its also about national pride to perform, so I cant agree that the singers are not at fault.
the singers have the choice to not agree with the war and not perform to set a sign, but they dont.

by now israel is basically using their ww2 victim status against europe.

They banned Russia. So that's the total end of this line of reasoning.

The pariah status given to South Africa helped end apartheid.
South Africa was banned from the Olympics until it began its transition to racial equality.
It is not one thing, in isolation, that has an impact. But in aggregate, a system of international pressure can make continuing any policy untenable.

interesting choice - does that mean in your pov every "celebrity" of person of fame has to then distance themselves from their native countries when their native countries do something bad
what I mean by "celebrities or person of fame" could include actors/actresses/notable scientists/authors/singers/athletes etc etc?

not necessarily. I was talking about esc here because its an official competition with a certain meaning.
even if the artist is not fine with what happens, they automaticly signal with their entry that they are. thats what I mean.
usually artists stay quiet about such matters.

so is your grip only with Eurovision per se and not other competitions or other events - like olympics or noble prizes or tournaments or other sporting events or movie festivals etc etc

It's Eurovision, you are directly representing your country. Like that's the point. It's up to the singer's choice to choose how to represent their country. Some incorporate traditional elements into their songs (Greece 2024, Latvia 2025), some show it modernly (Sweden's pop machine), and Israel last year entered a song about October the 7th. That was changed obviously, the EBU didn't allow it. But the fact is you can't represent an ethnostate without being complicit.
