I got complimented for reading a book yesterday (1 Viewer)

Not that she complimented me... But the fact that it's considered a compliment now
I was reading percy jackson and she said "it's beautiful to see a kid reading nowadays instead of their faces being in the phone"
I told her "i will admit, i am on the phone a good but, but I'd much rather be doing this (reading) or doing a puzzle"

This is the same for school. The two times i snuck my phone this past year during class, i made sure it was during a bathroom break and all i did was ask my mom a really important question. I've never had a need for it. I either read, or do the nyt and washington post puzzles on my Chromebook... Or write down all of the stray kids songs from memory

I love doing the NYT puzzles as well. I also love to read, especially on the bus (I have over an hour bus commute) but am not able to today as I need to go to the library again soon. Maybe I should take one from the basement in the meantime

you're right, that is sad - that kids nowadays are sticking their noses into their phones instead of books. well, I kinda have to use my phone to read bc I need large print. (and I know I can order large print physical books, but why wait when I can get ebooks right away instead of having to wait like two days for it to be delivered? but I digress)

Agreed. Especially when it comes to books that are super expensive and can only be found through resales (cough cough... Disney) but most of the time, if i can, I'd much rather have the physical copy.
I also tend to get more distracted when reading online

not to sound like a "kids these days..." kind of person because i don't read in my free time either and i'm all for letting teens spend time how they want but honestly i have to agree with the person who complimented you because at least those who read in the bus are quiet... meanwhile those who watch tiktoks on loud volume when everyone can hear it are insufferable and whenever i hear them play multiple ones with the same sound in a row, i feel like i'd rather smash my head against a wall

The way times are now, it’s honestly rare for someone to read that is not from a tablet or phone. It’s sad but honestly the truth. Reading is so important and is will always be one of my favorite hobbies

When i was in 6th grade, we had to make a newspaper, but it had to be styled in the way they would during the roman empire.
The teacher literally had to bring in physical newspapers bc some of the students had never even seen one before 💀

I didn't get a phone until last year. I did have a tablet for a good 5 years (7-12) and i rarely even played on that. And when i did, it was word cookies or my boo. I did have a leap frog 2 when i was younger. But as a 2-6 yr old, i didn't have much of an interest and played w my toys half the time. But leaf frogs are educational so yknow i wasn't brain rotting, i was learning

Digital vs physical books are personal preference, like enjoying only vanilla ice cream or many other flavors too. Someone reading on a digital device is reading. Therefore, a young person can read while having their nose stuck in their phone just fine, unlike her assumption.
