This is so interesting! Latin diverging into all the Romance languages is so interesting to me--whenever I as a French speaker see Spanish, Italian, etc, most looks relatively similar and I can at least guess the meaning but then sometimes there's stuff like this! I wonder why all the different roots instead of the same one?

From my understanding the French word for cheese comes from a more specific type of hard cheese that was common in France. Kind of like if in the future one English speaking country borrows ”milk” instead of “dairy” eventually, while other English speaking regions keep “dairy” as the overall route. Romania im not sure, but Romanian in general tends to have pretty different roots and such compared to Western Europe
