I mean, if it is something that is deemed as "unpure" in their culture, I think it's fair.
I don't think it's hate towards Blackpink,
but towards the stations and ad-makers and the company of the app.

“A group of women wearing scantily clad clothes that barely covers their aurat — what kind of message are we instilling to the pure souls?”
— Maimon Herawati
Aurat are parts of the human body which must, according to Islam, be covered from the sight of others with clothing and can be translated as one’s “private parts”.

“Shopee ads that use the South Korean group BLACKPINK are often played on children’s programs… What message do you want to put on the pure souls? That lifting clothes up high with tempting glances will bring them worldwide? That objectification of the female body is legitimate?”

— Maimon Herawati

I get it too, if it's in their culture, but it's still just so unnecessary :pepecry1:

If they really were dressed in really revealing and inappropriate clothes I would get it, but from the pics it seems they have really regular clothes on and they aren't doing anything sexual in the ads either. Even if it's more conservative country, it's overkill to me and call for unncessary cencorship.

This reminds me of Egyptian actress getting sued for wearing this by multiple Egyptian lawyers (you can apparently sue women in Egypt for wearing something you think is inappropriate).

Why did they allow it in the first place? I'm Muslim myself so I understand where they're coming from but I don't understand why they even bothered having the girls aired in the first place. They would have had to have known it would cause problems. I'm glad the girls aren't getting hate over this though.

EDIT: I just saw some photos from the ad and they were actually more covered than I was expecting... I have no idea what Indonesian celebrities wear on tv but compared to what we usually see from BP and K-Pop girl groups in general, they were actually pretty covered. I just don't understand why the TV station gave the "OK" to air it knowing very well what their country is like though...

If the ad is that improper, who allowed it to be broadcasted? I mean, there should be some kind of filter before airing something on TV.

These were my first exact thoughts as soon as I read the article. I mean, the commercial was given to Indonesian TV, an Indonesian person reviewed it and allowed for it to be broadcasted to millions. This should have been deemed unfit way beforehand.

Kind of unsurprising because of the country. The last few years i've seen more and more news stories come up from Indonesia that are concerning. They seem rooted in a system that is fully bigoted and oppressive (personally, I don't think it's a religious thing).

I think it was just a year ago they were even canning straight couples who met without supervision.
