Do you know what makes Pluto a dwarf planet? (1 Viewer)

By definition, a dwarf planet is “an object in orbit around the Sun that is large enough to pull itself into a nearly round shape but has not been able to clear its orbit of debris.” Pluto has pulled itself into a nearly round shape. However, Pluto's orbit goes through the Trans-Neptunian region, and there are objects there that can cross the path of Pluto. Therefore, Pluto is not considered a planet, but instead a dwarf planet. This classification does depend on size because physics, but not 100%. And it’s also not a demotion like many people seem to think, it’s just a different classification

I think tat my response to Pluto being re-classified as not a FULL planet is complicated more n more by how gleeful the public Neil Degrasse Tyson positions it as not personal n just a scientific nomenclature then doing a public statement(well sort of) of how the 7 days of the week are based on 7 mythic gods, just as the 9 planets are(my point not his). But Pluto is one of the 3 major figures of the Roman pantheon whereas Saturn is a Titan(previous generation to Jupiter, mars, neptune n Pluto-these last 2 being last planets to be discovered before pluto being demoted is just how slighted neptune n pluto seem in planetary nomenclature). While the 9 Roman figures aren't mapped exactly on the planets, Pluto not being a full planet just seems wrong to me like renaming Saturday to Zeusday or sthg.

When you put it that way, it’s interesting that Pluto and Neptune were named so late. I get that in Roman mythology they were pretty minor, but they were still the 3 brothers. Then again, the Roman’s considered Juno and Minerva to be 2 of the 3 most important gods from what I know, and they got no planets named after them. I guess the naming system and importance of the gods don’t match because the people named them long after the fall of Rome
