how do you cope when a fav band or group breaks up? (1 Viewer)

I'm not looking for any "I just suck it up and move on" type answers. I'm really out here struggling and trying to emotionally prepare for when 5SOS disbands. Not saying they are, but in their tour announcement video, they went to a press conference with the "intention" of a breakup announcement, but they ended up giving a tour announcement instead. Then, when they were back in the limo, Luke or whoever it was scolded his members, shouting, "We were meant to be breaking up!"

Y'all, that video was two weeks ago, and I still don't know what to believe. Not that I'm doubting the tour, but when you put a (fake? I hope to God it's fake) breakup announcement in with a tour announcement, it's pretty concerning.

So, enough about me. How do y'all cope with disbandment?

IDK, I don't worry about it until there's something to worry about.

If they're touring, they're not disbanding.

Well, I try to get over the initial sadness, but I still watch old content and music videos, so it's like they never disbanded in the first place for me. Eventually, you would be watching old content, but that's basically what I do lol. I'll be in the same situation once most of K-pop's 3rd & 4th gen groups disband, since I stopped listening to groups after 4th gen. But hopefully that will be a while from now!

Well for me I just look back and think about how long they've been together. When golcha quietly disbanded I wasn't necessarily down about it because I know they had a good run, they had a loyal fanbase, they had releases that the larger kpop fanbase did like, and they did well for what they wanted to do, let alone solo achievements (Bomin doing a few k dramas, Jangjun being a good entertainer).
When gfriend 'disbanded' and Mirae as well I was more blindsided because it seemed like company mismanagement. These were groups where, although with Mirae they were showing signs of slowing down, they still had potential in themand had energy for a few more years.
Now though I have the mindset that disbandment in a k-pop context is usually a good thing. At the end of the day the industry is naturally abusive and exploitative, I'd rather have my faves either disband or move to a company where they may have a better control and their creative and business direction (ie. Infinite, Lovelyz), than to have them renew with a label with little changes and has historically been terrible to them (ie. txt).

Still not over Jessica and that was 11+ years ago. Except for Red velvet i pretty much unplugged from kpop until Party.
OT8 is great but nothing compares to OT9. closest i have seen was IZ*ONE.

IZ*ONE I was terrified probably more since the IOI girls mostly all crashed and burned after that disbandment.

I just love the past memories and get sad at times watching old stuff.
for snsd Not alone and divine are painful.

I have never watched the whole phantasia tour/Tokyo dome and don't plan too.

I had a really rough time when Gfriend disbanded. I even told my therapist about it and she kind of….shamed me??? She said it seemed as if I was 15 by saying that. Issue is, as I tried to explain to her, which didn’t work, that I basically grew up with Gfriend. I’m the same age as the members. I read the lyrics of the songs and completely felt each line with pain while I was crushing on this boy during my teenage years. The type of innocent crush where you feel helpless and lovesick rather than being happy you know??? I would comeback from school to check on their updates, specially if I had a hard day it was my coping mechanism. I was there as early as their debut. I watched them rise, release their first hit, get their first PAK, win 1st place. I watched them being transferred to other agency and doing a concept the members disliked and were against. I watched the girls faint on stage and fall sick. They represented my teenage hood, my high school years and early 20s. To this day idk why it was hard for the therapist to understand.

Anyways the only answer I can give is time being the cure to all. I still feel like a teenage girl when I listen to their album LOL, and I watch their old reality shows from time to time and it reminds me of my own memories at the time. I never really felt the same way about any other group or stanned any other group after them. Maybe it is that I wasn’t the age at which K-pop is targeted anymore, or maybe it was that I got very hurt the last time. But eventually you, the fans, and the members move on.

well I never manage to attach myself emotionally to anyone online, actors, artists, youtubers, kpop, so while i will miss the content, I just ignore the feeling and don't think about it basically be an ostrich and hide from the feelings
