I got into kpop when I was introduced to SNSD through their Into The New World mv by a Korean classmate 11 years ago.
And while that song will forever remain special to me, it's not my favorite song in the kpop.
That distinguishment belongs to So Nyeo Shi Dae, SNSD's next and often overlooked eponymous entry.
When I hear it, I am transported back.
To those early days where I was just getting into this world of kpop and everything was new and fresh and exciting.
I can almost be there. In my dorm in college where I had it playing on my white iPod or in the hall waiting for Chinese class.
There is no single song that I associate with kpop more than this song.
The song. The MV. The look. The feel.
The feeling of exploring this whole new world I never new existed but would later become a large part of my life
It all comes back with this track.
To me, it distills in one song my emotional connection to kpop and the magic of this world .
If I had to pick the one song that is "kpop" in my mind, to me.
It's this.
