Do you prefer it when groups confirm disbandment or leaving it open? (1 Viewer)

I've been into Kpop since 2011, and it's been interesting seeing the transition over that time from companies being very clear about "this idol is leaving this group" or "this group is done, this is a final release" to leaving it open that maybe they aren't disbanded or such-and-such idol could totes come back! Nevermind the fact that they didn't re-sign, have no specific contractual obligations, and even if they do drop something in 5/10/15 years, releasing something for important anniversary milestones is not exactly the same thing as a group being together and promoting normally.

Personally, I prefer the explicit communication, like with NCT's Mark explicitly leaving all of the NCT units, so NCTzens aren't in that same "will he finally be promoting and on stage with the whole group again??" stringing along EXO-L's got for years with Lay. Or KARD's BM being very clear that they aren't going to be together after their contracts expire in December, and like yeah, maybe someday there will be another release with all four of them, but they're going to go out with a bang on this last one that they actually know is happening and can commit to releasing.

It's not like being clear "this chapter in our lives is now over" would actually stop a sentimental reunion release, ala Gfriend. Or even fully getting the gang back together, like the Backstreet Boys eventually did.

100%!! I'd so much rather have it clear what the situation is, and then if the situation changes, it's not like the company can't make a "guess what!!" announcement and create hype. I don't get the appeal of having that "hope, hope, hope, disappointment" string instead.

I'm reminded now of what FNC briefly pretended AOA was a band, and was like "but don't worry! AOA Black will totes promote again" and then never did. I'm sure they knew they had no real plans to try to pull Youkyung back in for a comeback.

But I get that's just my preference, and Kpop fans in particular seem to REALLY prefer being able to say their faves are not technically disbanded/their bias will totally rejoin the group.

YES. And that was especially hard for fans, since SME didn't really have a history (at that time) of letting their wildly popular groups not get releases, so of course everyone was expecting them to get something eventually.

confirmed disbandment. Especially after what One Direction did to us - they strung us along, making us think it was just a break, when in reality, they were getting ready to break up. They even wrote a whole ass song about us (History). ik boy bands will come and go, but idk that was kinda... below the belt.

But more on topic, I don't think I've ever had a disbandment that wasn't confirmed, unless you count MyTeen. idk if anyone even remembers them, though, so lol

Do you just mean among your faves, you can't remember one not confirming? Because I can think of tons of "technically still together" groups that never officially disbanded.

I prefer something like say Red Velvet ie we are going separate ways but will do stuff together every few years. ill guess 2-3 years between comebacks.
f(x) was fine each of the girls were under contract, but with out Victoria there was really no chance of a comeback.
And there was zero appetite for Amber, Luna solo or duet. And Krystal for obv reasons was still pissed since they killed Jessica and the Jung sis album. She hated being around SNSD and refused to do sm town until that last Japan show.

I prefer them being realistic like EXID and Gfriend all have their own individual stuff going on and they'll celebrate the group here and there because the group part of their lives is still ongoing but just isn't their priority like it was before.

Compared to Oh My Girl saying oh YooA and Arin are still part of the group meanwhile Oh My Girl has an upcoming performance as 4 like if the group is mostly 4 members and only becomes 6 for a big anniversary then Oh My Girl is a 4 member group
