Agreed, we shouldn't assume, label, nor guess anyone's sexuality - regardless if it is in or out of the LGBTQ+ community.
It's important to bring awareness to those that are allied (even if that means, on their own personal terms, that they also may be part of the community directly) and the things they have done to support and bring more positive awareness to the community itself, but it's not anyone's place to present things said, done, or shown as "evidence" of sorts to label someone or think they "may" be something or the other.

I agree with this! It honestly shouldn't matter whether a Kpop idol is LGBTQ+ or not, what matters is whether they support it or not. My opinion on them wouldn't change no matter who they were attracted to but it would certainly make a difference to me if they supported the community, it's much more important ^^

Have you not seen how society just assumes that people are straight? "Do you have a girlfriend, yet?' if you are a guy. "Do you have a boyfriend, yet?" if you are a girl.
Also, there is a difference between saying someone is gay and saying someone is lgbtq, because lgbtq can mean other labels of the lgbtq. Like for me, I identify as 'pansexual', someone else may identify as 'queer', or 'bisexual', or 'asexual', etc.
Not everyone who is in the lgbtq community is gay, though there will always be some people who are gay.
Also, people who are shunned for their sexuality is the reason why we have to speak out, so that in future generations, we are not shunned anymore or as much.
We can't sit back and let people suffer in silence.

However, while I agree it's important to not shun anyone for their preferences/sexuality (among other reasons) nor let anyone suffer in silence, it's also important to respect that sexuality is a very personal thing to many people. I would assume even more for people that were born and raised and now work in a society that, while advancing in respecting differences of this sort are still clearly a bit behind in this aspect unfortunately.

It's one thing to talk about supportive individuals, and those that have been open about discussing and/or supporting it, because they are openly doing this and as I said prior it's something that needs awareness, ESPECIALLY in a positive way due to so many thinking it's such a negative thing; but it's another to continue to say that someone is part of the LGBTQ+ community because of something they have said or done, the way they act or look, the way they present themselves, or anything of the sort, and use the excuse of society's assumptions that people are straight to keep pushing it or asking it.

Neither assumption is a good thing, and luckily I've seen (at least where I live and in the youth of society as a whole around the world) more people asking "do you have someone you care about/like yet?" or "oh is that the person you like/want to date?" etc rather than labeling with pronouns or assumptions.

I agree with this.
I wasn't saying they are definitely a part of the lgbtq community, I am saying that it's a possibility, it's not assuming.
I really do agree that a supportive community is a great start to acceptance and tolerance.

That is understandable and you are correct when people will act differently.
It's a bit like when Sunmi said that there were many sides to herself and she mentioned LGBT and everyone started wondering, then later on on twitter she said 'don't get me wrong guys'.
So, I can understand where you are coming from.

I'm all for representation and pride but for a society like Korea, I think we ought to be careful with our assumptions. And I'm saying this as a pansexual who has dated both genders off and on. I wouldn't want to be pointed out in a society like that. It's not nearly as progressive/accepting in the lgbtq department yet as other countries are. It could have devastating results for their career, home life, family, etc. They seem to be working on it, yes, but they're still a little behind. Tread carefully.

Ex: Old time shawols have seen the types of reactions Koreans had towards Jonghyun when he was so open in his lgbtq support. There was a lot of good but there was also a lot of bad.

Also, some of these things like "When asked if Taeyeon sang a song to a guy she really likes, she said it wasn't to a guy but a girl." could really just be that they're trying to appease their fans and reassuring them that "they are not involved with anyone, we're just for you!" type of bullshit to avoid pissing them off. We all know how k-fans get. And maybe she meant 'likes as a friend' for the girl she brought up. The translation to English could be iffy, too, possibly. Or maybe she could have really meant it but I wouldn't dare put my money on it. I'm not going to discount everything every idol said, though, since I'm sure what some idols have said could be very literal.

It's all speculation but we really ought to be careful about jumping to conclusions and claiming things as facts.

Aside from what I said above...

Yoongi didn't say he "likes boys"... He's only said he doesn't care about gender. Not that he just likes boys... I MEAN IT'S STILL A GREAT THING but people should at least be accurate... His exact words are "I focus on personality and atmosphere. I don’t have an ideal type and it’s not limited to a girl." which imho is still amazing. People should be proud that he seems to be so open to all genders, period. Touches my heart. He's a brave soul.

Saying someone is lgbt because of their hair or something is one thing, but if they say that their ideal type is a man like them, saying that they may be lgbt isn't going to be harmful to them.


That being said 2 members of DIP publically vame out with their relationship and the leader said he was bi. Kangin from Romeo said his ideal type was a man like him, Ungjae from imfact said it keeps changing from girl to boy , and of course Hansol from Topp Dogg came out as asexual.

I agree with this. They have actually come out and said it although I believe there are mistranslations on a couple of the ones in the video like Yoongi's one was fake subs apparently.
