As we all are so much into K-pop, our first experience with it might have been different :pandaamazed: I'm curious how you all got into the K-pop:

1) What was your first experience with K-pop (first MV, song etc.)

2) When did you really start stanning K-pop?

Personally for me, my relative introduced me to K-pop 10 years ago . The very first MV and song I listened to was "Sorry, Sorry" (which I liked) and introduced to both SJ and Shinee at the same time!

Fast forward, a couple of years later, BTS' MIC Drop sold me and I seriously started stanning K-pop :bigcatlove:

First one was DBSK's Rising Sun (and their One Piece songs but i didn't know those were theirs back then). It was.. mm.. 2008? probably that.

I liked it, but didn't really know it was kpop. I only found out later that kpop existed when my friend sent me some songs to listen including kpop songs, I think it was on summer 2010. I listened songs from different artist back then, SNSD (Gee, Oh!, Genie), SHINee (Ring Ding Dong, Lucifer), some from Teen Top, Super Junior, Big Bang. I listened them without really watching mv's and getting into groups. Later on when I got more into BB's (and GD&TOP's music) I decided to check the group itself out as well, browsed whole tag they had in tumblr (which was possible to do back then) and became VIP.

1) The first Kpop song I ever heard was Gangnam Style by Psy but back then I didn't know anything about Kpop as I'd never heard the term before. I started hearing about Kpop a lot in 2017 which is when I decided to explore it myself which is when I listened to DNA by BTS for the first time. I really loved the song but back then it wasn't something I'd listen to often and I guess I didn't give it enough of a chance

2) I started getting into it much more in February this year. I went back to the songs I had listened to and I watched a bunch of Kpop MV playlists on YouTube and I loved it all so much. The first group I stanned was BTS and they still remain my ult group but recently I've been trying to get into more groups as I've been recommended a lot ^^

Really like your story! Those of us, who listened or saw K-pop MV's back at that time, were listening to legends of today! Now, think how it would've been of we were into K-pop back then?! I remember my relative showing me some old forums which existed back in those days, where they also discussed MV's, favourite members etc. :yolk:

There are so many who learned about K-pop trhough Gangnam Style - I believe it was one of those hit songs that really spread K-pop more world-wide than ever before.

Aaaww - love that you became more interested in K-pop recently. I think you're on right time exploring K-pop now, as it's becoming huge everyday! Today, K-pop still has some core-roots in it, so I wonder sometimes if it will go another direction in the future. :llama_tea:

I first knew of K Pop around the early 2000's from the Anime community that I was a part of because a lot of them were BoA fans. However I never looked into it myself. I also heard a lot about SNSD from 2007 through to early 2009 and still I didn't look into it.
That all changed though when one day SNSD's Genie was in my Youtube recommendations as it was recently released. So I decided "what the hell", and looked it up. And omg.... I fell in love with everything about SNSD straight away. The song, the MV, the outfits, Taeyeon's bridge. It had me hooked :sj_weary: and I've been going along for this expensive ride over the past 10 years

You're a senior then! ^^ Amazing - I also wish that I looked more into it back then, but was busy with high-school :yolk: and I was obsessed with Lady GaGa!
Although I do remember how around 2010-2013 YouTube recommended me BigBang, 2NE1, SNSD, SuperJunior etc. - sometimes I'd watch their MV's and still leave them

I was more into J Rock from around 2005 up till I got into K Pop. I was obsessed with bands like ONE OK ROCK & Scandal (and I'm still a massive fan of them both).

The first few acts that I got into in my early days as a K Pop fan though alongside SNSD were f(x), After School, 4Minute and Hyuna. Though I did also know about the likes of TVXQ, Bigbang, SUJU, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, KARA etc.

I also remember how 4Minute was a big deal back then, because of all YouTube fans in many other non-K-pop related videos (haha). The only comeback I ever experienced from them was "Hate".

I discovered Hyuna through her solo debut song 'Change' before I discovered 4Minute. So I've always been more of a Hyuna fan. But 4Minute released so many iconic songs and they were huge considering how small Cube were compared to the likes of SM, YG and way back then DSP..

I also still remember the fight between SNSD and After School for the #1 spot in my heart.

That really was the golden era back then..

That golden era was something!

Actually when I discovered Hyuna (after I disovered 4Minute) I didn't knew she was their member - back then I was just amazed by their MV's and songs!

The one thing that confused me was all those comments people left about members here and there, winnings, charts, comebacks etc. That was a big puzzle back then, and it still is today to some extent - hahaha.

For me it was
Pre-experiance
Anime -> Tokusatsu -> JDramas -> Other Asain dramas not Japanese.

You're Beautiful became one of my favorite dramas but the roots of kpop and duh krock hadn't set in quite yet. Heck I sang BOA's inuyasha ending at karoke (and almost fainted) but hadn't realized she was Korean yet. Among others. The change came when my co-worker was excited he got free tickets to see Big Bang in LA. My fist music video shown to me that i recognized as Korean was Big Bang's fantastic Baby. I don't know why that was different but it really got me looking at Korean artists and really looking at the band that the guy played Jeremy belonged to.

Needless to say my first and so far only kpop concert I have gone to was in Big Bang in Anaheim.

I think stanning kpop came with recognizing it for Korean artists.

I was in this online community with girls, so around 2009/2010 there were already some fans here and there. Lots of Girls Generation stans, so that's why Gee was my first ever kpop MV. But also lots of 2NE1/Super Junior/SHINee/U-Kiss stans. But I didn't want anything to do with it at first (WHY THOUGH. I watched anime like CRAZY)

Until the summer of 2016, I was so bored and suddenly remembered Gee. Watched it again. Thought it was really catchy. Listened to some more SNSD and watched lots of kpop charts after that. And that's when I couldn't go back anymore :wimwim:

(So SNSD at first and then groups like BTS / Red Velvet / Seventeen ETC)

Almost anyone who saw BigBang's fantastic baby was mesmerized by it - and me too! ^^

That is what happens, when you go back and back again - I did the same thing during 2009-2017 , and only after BTS's release of DNA and MIC Drop I was sold :nekolove:

Definitely!! And yeah, Kpop is becoming bigger than ever and honestly I'm just enjoying the ride. Discovering Kpop has made listening to music so much more fun for me and I've never been this passionate about groups I've liked in the past
