Didn't see thread about this, so;

Official statement shared by YGE, via soompi: BIGBANG’s Daesung Releases Statement Regarding Reports Of Illegal Activities In His Building

"Hello, this is Daesung!

First of all, I would like to express my sincere apologies for greeting everyone with this kind of [matter] while I am serving in the military, as well as for causing everyone to worry.

The building described in the reports is one that I purchased just before enlisting and is a building that has been under my name. I enlisted almost immediately after buying [the building], and as a result from it, I would like to once more sincerely apologize for my inexperienced management of the building.

At the time of purchasing the building, business was already taking place as there were tenants that had already moved in, so I was not properly aware of the illegal activities of the relevant companies. For establishments that have been identified to have done illegal activities, we will immediately be taking legal action, and with my responsibilities as the landlord, I will do my best.

I have belatedly realized my shortcomings and am deeply reflecting.

I will do my best faithfully in regards to all the incorrect aspects. Thank you
"

Like he bought the building to put his money to work while in the army.
May not have worked out as well as he wished.

I'm sure.

Tbh, i wasn't surprised if this whole thing with Seungri made idols to look into their businesses and if there is sth shady to go on. Either unknowingly by them or sth they were part of :joshmeh:

There is almost always a rebuttal for these things.
Yup. Hopefully this whole thing doesn't take as long as Seungri's stuff has been taking.

I've seen a lot of people speculating the same thing since he's been gone for almost two years. Wasn't expecting him to flat out admit that there were illegal activities, it's usually "we're aware of allegations and will investigate" it must be pretty bad...
Either way, I hope this won't be as messy as Seungri

If he's saying the truth, this shouldn't blow up like the whole Seungri thing did- I mean there was a LOT OF STUFF with Seungri from Burning Sun, drugs, police bribery, the molka chats, prostitution.

Hopefully this is more straightforward.

i'm going to be honest i don't buy the statement.

he bought the building november 2017 so saying he had to enlist "almost immediately" is a lie because he enlisted march 2018. 4 months isn't almost immediately... he clearly didn't have a plan since whoever he left to maintain the building while he was in the army is doing a terrible job.

not saying he's guilty of the other things, but it doesn't bode well if he's already lying...i would also say every building in gangnam probably has illegal activity going on there. just bc daesung owns one doesn't mean much yet.

I heard someone else stating that too, but i wasn't sure of time line. In general time like "almost immediately" is relative, it could be used to express a day or even 3 months. So i'm not taking it as lying right now.

I'm sure more stuff will be brought up though.

Honestly it makes sense. I mean, unless the house owner is close to the tenants, I doubt any of them (owners) actually know what they (tenants) are up to. People could do absolutely anything without their property owners knowing. It just sucks for him that he's linked with Seungri and since this is also another prositution case, it makes people doubt him simply because of his connection to Seungri and YG. I hope there's nothing more to this and this case gets settled as soon as possible.

I think what he meant was he went through the application process to enlist. For both of EXO’s we knew over a month in advance, and they had their physical tests before announcing so they knew where they’d end up being stationed.

I want to believe him but I'm a skeptic at heart.

Remember back when Psy got into legal fun because of his tenets in the building he bought? Just because you buy a building doesn't mean you are free to do whatever with it. Again these are business that are listed in the building that is managed by the realestate company. So the relestate company goes up to potential buyers and goes here is what is in here and here is how long, also proof of their leases/rent. Just because he is the new owner doesn't mean he can go in all high and mighty and start shaking up shops and what not to see if they are legit. That is what the realestate company is for.

Also as for almost immidently there is plenty of process of buying a building. From the decision to do so, to the finalizing of paperwork. You can make your first payment but it can be a bit for everything to be process and it transfer people. Almost immediately usually - sanely- has a 6 mo window when it comes to things that take paperwork.

that's fair and im not saying he's guilty either. but i don't think 4 months is anywhere remotely close to almost immediately, not in this case. maybe it's not a lie, but it's still a poor excuse.

he's the building owner so whoever he put in charge to look after this property on his behalf is either the one to blame or he is...i guess we'll see how things turn out.

ig it's different bc this isn't a residential property but a commercial one. these rooms are leased for businesses so property owners should do their own inspections.

you seem to be putting the time it takes to decide to purchase, fill in paperwork, transfer title/ownership, all before the date the public found out he purchased the building, which is silly...he bought the building. so he already decided to buy it. already filled in the paperwork to do so. and already had the title transfered. that's why the news was released in november 2017. so none of the 4 months before his enlistment date was taken up by that process.

But they would have had another business on their contract so the likelihood of him actually knowing their real business isn't high just from going over the papers. I do agree that he should have done more research into the building but I still don't think any owner would be aware of what they're really doing besides the business on their contracts unless they're close to them. So unless he's close and had some part in the illegal business, it makes sense to me that he wouldn't have been aware of what was really going on in that building.

I don't own any commercial real estate, so thanks for the info.

i somewhat agree. i'm not saying daesung knows anything personally. but imo he's failed as a property owner not having hired people to regulate, if he really doesn't know anything about these businesses. they're probably different on paper, but they still need to register as bars. it's just the type of bar people are concerned with. let's say this was about gambling instead. if i was a property owner and i knew i'd be in deep trouble if one of my lease holders were to conduct illegal gambling at their bar/club, i'd want to make sure that stuff didn't happen there so i would regulate, or i would regulate so i'd be able to get a cut of the profit. either way right...
