Why did people turn their backs on 2PM but still supporting BigBang (6 Viewers)

Remember once upon a time there was a top boy group that had everything for 4 years they were the top boy group from 2008 to 2012 it's called 2PM

2PM were everywhere making hits after hits winning daesangs... selling domes and tours huge album sales.. CFs being called the beastly idols.. Collaborating with big names.. Etc etc... Everything a group could dream of... Then suddenly in 2013 they dipped after DrunkKhun happened... Then everyone left the Fandom the public stopped supporting them and they are no where to be seen on the charts


BigBang way worse scandals from weed sue to drugs to pimping to rape scandals and police corruption manipulation.. The members images are bad.. yet still people listen to them and I am pretty sure if they made a comeback it would still top the charts.... Why is that??? It's still confusing to me and rub me the wrong way and I find it so unfair to 2PM I used to be a huge hottest back then...

How they don't last long with MissA wonder girls they were making hits till their disbandment ????? Twice is still going strong.... Wonder girls lasted 10 years... 4 years being the top boy group isn't a short period a lot of groups disband after their 5th year...

I've seen this complaint come up a couple times and now I'm wondering myself. Like people have labelled Suju as the problematic group of kpop before but here we are with Big Bang 😂

I don't think 2PM lost fans and fame, because of Khun's DUI scandal. They lost some sure, but there were other reasons as well and similar to Big Bang's earlier scandals I think it was mostly obstacle to overcome.

To me biggest reason why 2PM lost so much interest is because JYP decided to ship them to Japan and keep them there. 2PM was away in Japan 2012- actually gaining lot of recognization there- when Big Bang in other hand had huge comeback with Alive. Whenever 2PM had comeback in Korea after that their promotions were usually rather short and it was back to Japan afterwards. They were appearing less in varieties that was big part of their success (some of this was due to Khun's DUI though), less in dramas and so on.

And i think it has to do with music too, 2PM hasn't had as big hits. Go Crazy did well, but compared to Big Bang just lot less hits. Their success is more fandom and variety based I think than Big Bangs. They aren't individually as popular either so although most members come out with solo songs those haven't kept group a float and fandom "fed" unlike GD's and Taeyang's comebacks.

What I'm trying to say is that 2PM lost lot of momentum and interest and some of it was because of Khun's scandal but more in sense that they couldn't perform a lot in Korea after it and be in varieties where Khun had been popular, and then because JYP wanted japanese money and valued it over Korean money. Big Bang in other hand hasn't lost this momentum and interest in any point, even if member was down for a while because of scandal others would keep it up and whenever they did comeback together people loved their music and it would do good.

Oh and it doesn't matter if others are labeling your favs problematic and such. Fans decide themselves and VIPs just seem to stay no matter what ^^

TBH I think 2PM's lack of relevance in Korea is more down to them being pushed more in Japan. Remember, after Wonder Girls failed in the US, JYP almost went bankrupt and they had to keep 2PM where they could earn the most money.

Well it's pretty much a combination of Nichkhun's drinking scandal and being shipped off to Japan. Altho I do remember people (ie Knetz) bringing up the whole scandal even after 3 years and Nichkhun kept on apologizing for it. Idk why BB had such a preferential treatment. All I know is 2PM didn't commit have of what BB committed and still get treated worse while we've seen how amazing and humble the boys are and what amazing personalities they got (call me biased Idk but that's the truth)

Probably being pushed in Japan and not doing anything much since 2012? Idk but since I got into Kpop in 2013 I haven't seen much group activities from 2PM while BigBang had hits both as a group and by their solo members. Tbh I don't think people really turned their backs on 2PM, just like they didn't on Suju and BigBang.

I think that Big Bang is an anomaly. Their music is just so public friendly than they will always receive support. I can’t say about 2PM but maybe it’s because JYP is always selling this idea of idols with good character so they are less easily forgiven.

Big bang has almost always had this 'bad boys' sort of image, not all the time in their music but with their fashion and even from their earlier scandals they've just been that group, they have scandals but oh well


I don't think all of their scandals should have been forgiven, but they have created a portion of korea's 2000's sound track , you have like 5or 6 songs you think of when you think about a generation and big bang will definetly be in their so it becomes hard to banish

Yes. OTP4 Big Bang can survive easily in this industry I think but if Daesung is found guilty I don’t know what is going to happen with the group.

They still sold more albums, they still charted, they still did Domes. The public just didn't want shit to do with Nickhun, which he deserved

I'll never understand how 2pm and t-ara got into their scandals at the same time but T-ara got it a million times worse

Honestly BigBang is just a huge anomaly in kpop. At my uni girls will sing the japanese version of Haru Haru in the hallway. I just think that BigBang just had the "it" factor despite all of the scandals they've had. On the other hand, 2PM did suffer with the Jay Park scandal as the poor guy was literally exiled for a misunderstanding but not to the extent that T-ARA suffered. But Taecyeon is still one of the most loved kpop idols for his clean image and I would liken him to a male version of Yoona in terms of public recognition and adoration.

Jun.K actually had DUI as well in 2018 so the image of whole group isn't best right now even if Khun's stuff is/was mostly forgotten. And with some of them still in military and Taecyeon having left JYP I think their future as group is also bit uncertain right now.

I think they're in Soshi situation right now. Some are in the military and some left JYP

Tbh they're too told to be making hits and promoting. If they stay together, it's probably for the tour money

I don't think they will as long as Japan loves them. Disbanding would affect the brand value JYP developed and I don't think they want to lose that money. As much as JYP claims it's a clean company about developing young talent, it's a business motivated by profit.
