Can someone please explain? They went for the jungle sound which is basically known as being the African style music by majority of the world. I mean, if they went for the Latin American sound and described it as the "Latin style" would people also be offended? I'm so confused about why this is an issue.

People are claiming it's ignorant and offensive because they imitated the sounds. I don't find it offensive at all, but people are people.

You mean the jungle sound?? That was the genre they went with for their cover. I feel like K-Pans op stmake up new rules sometimes just so they can have a reason to hate. The whole world makes Jungle music even if it's known as the African sound. As far as I'm aware, there's no rule against the genre?

No, they were offended by the chants. When BTS said that they had an African sound for Idol, no one was affected. Music is universal... It's interesting, the double standards.

at first I thought she would say something really bad because of the views
but I think the problem maybe was how she expressed herself, I think this can be taked in a wrong way but I don't think she did nothing exactly wrong here... I mean she just didn't express herself well. Or am I just being naive?

There have been a lot of things that have happened in kpop over the years that you could call problematic - we all know this. You could name pretty much any group and we could think of an example. I honestly have a hard time being bothered by any of it though.

They say they're going for an "African" sound with the chants or the rhythms, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. It came across clumsy, like they're not experts in various African musical traditions, but I can't see anything to justify some of the outrage I've seen on twitter. I've seen some people acting like it's some horrible, racist attack, when really it's just a bunch of kids who have an idea for something they think would be cool who just aren't as informed on the subject as they could be. My god, the horror. How will anyone ever feel safe in the world?!

Whenever a situation like this comes up I always try to see if it's just something out of ignorance, or if there's any malicious intent behind it. I don't see any malicious intent here. They had an idea for a style that they think would be great for their performance, and they wanted to incorporate it.

Some have said they're reinforcing stereotypes and they're guilty of cultural appropriation. If they are, it's only out of ignorance, and I can understand some people being disappointed, but I really can't understand the outrage, especially when so much of this "cultural appropriation" outrage stems from westerners trying to hold k-pop idols to cultural standards that frankly don't exist in Korea. It's incredibly arrogant to judge someone from a different culture, who grew up with different perspectives, and get offended because they don't live up to your particular standards.

Don't rly see why they can't use some african inspired sounds in the music, they are going what they are familiar with about africa and viewers would be familiar with as well.

That’s the problem though. They do not know what is an African sound so they ended up sounding something else. ( I don’t even know if it sounds middle eastern or not) and then they claimed that they came for an African sound. And what the public is familiar about African sounds in this case is a cliché. They are not helping here.

If they tried to educate plp what is "real african sound" wouldn't it come out even more ignorant, it's not rly their job. I don't still see issue in having sound or style inspired of sth unless it's negative stereotypes. Ofc it can come out cringy sometimes, but i don't see it being offensive. It's sounds that are used in music similar as latin sounds, middle eastern, reggae.

Not their job for sure but basically they are doing cultural appropriation. Using another culture sound without knowing about it or without knowing that African music is way more than drums and a chief scream. It’s really offensive because it looks like they summarize African music to that. I don’t see an issue though about taking inspiration in another culture music but they need to try to educate themselves on the subject first.
