It’s not always an idol’s choice so I don’t see how they “sexualize themselves. They don’t always have control over what they wear or what type of choreography they have to perform. There’s times where they’re forced into concepts that they aren’t even comfortable with. It’s even worse when companies make underaged idols do things that are considered “sexy”.

To me the entire mindset is similar to "If you don't want to be raped/harassed, don't wear revealing clothes."
Firstly, this is what sells. The idols have to do this in order to get clout. Secondly, it isn't always their choice. In the case that it is, it's usually for fanservice.
If an idol does it because it makes them feel confident, and even says (such as Hyuna), the situation is a bit different, but still similar. Yes, their point was to be attractive in that sense, but to write and read smuts about them, and do these "imagines" about things you want to do to them is disgusting. They are not objects.

I can see where youre coming from here, there are idols who are forced into situations theyre uncomfortable in, like in Wiggle Wiggle Hello Venus had to fight the company for the right to wear booty shorts rather than g strings. I also think its just not going to stop happening though, and as a whole it probably doesnt affect most idols as long as youre not forcing it into their face.

the only thing I feel uncomfortable with is when kpop fans sexualize minors or they wait for the day an underage idol becomes 18 so then they can sexualize them. it's like they have a calendar with the date of an idols 18th birthday on it and they look forward to the day where they can make smut fanfics about them. that makes me so uncomfortable, like on twitter the other day, I saw a clip of a group vlive of the txt members and one of their fans asked them if they could do a sexy concept or dance. and one of the members had to say "no there are minors in this group" like wtf? also when fans force their ships so much to the point where the idols feel uncomfortable. im not gonna lie and say that I haven't thirsted over an idol (i mean theyre hot lmao) but id never sexualize minors or do it to the point where the idols may feel uncomfortable over it.

honestly i think sexualizing idols is a normal part of human functioning, there are people irl you think those things about.

i think its about balence. it's kinda gross when people look at idols exclusively sexually (ex: people looking at kai sexually and ignoring how cute he is off stage or how much of a good personaility he has or his talents). it's also about time and place, you would want to post these sort of things with adaquate warnings like "18+" and not post them somewhere ridiculous like an idols livestream.

If an idol ever said that they just wanted to be seen as cute/talented/funny/thoughtful i would imediately halt any sexual comments about them.

Yep. Actually I don’t mind too much about people sexualizing idols and I know that some idols willingly act sexy but some people take it too far. Also the entertainment industry ( not only Kpop) relies too much on theirs workers sexualization and it’s sad.

That being said, it's not cool to direct lewd comments at some idol personally like in a V live or livestream or fansigns, or just see them as objects of sexual fantasy. There's more to them than that, and their personal space needs to be respected.

I think everyone can imagine what they want, but just be polite to other people- don't sent ur fantasies and sexy edits to idols, don't try to take lewd pictures of them aka those who try to film under their skirts during performances, and tag/label ur nsfw content appropriately.
