Nezu Shrine (根津神社 Nezu-jinja) is a Shinto shrine located in the Bunkyō ward of Tokyo, Japan.

Established in 1705, it is one of the oldest places of worship in the city, and several of the buildings on the shrine grounds have been designated as Important Cultural Property. It was built in the Ishi-no-ma-zukuri style of Shinto architecture, following the Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō.

It is famous for its Azalea Festival (Tsutsuji Matsuri) which is held on its grounds from early April until early May, and it has been described as "Tokyo’s most beautiful shrine"and as one the city's "most spectacular spring scenes".

Autumn is slowly making its presence known in Tokyo as the colours of the season are beginning to change and so I thought that I would like to share with you one of my favourite spots within Tokyo and an area that I frequent on a regular basis.

You won't hear about Nezu Shrine in any guidebooks and you won't come across many tourists here either. And that is a good thing. Nezu Shrine is a beautiful hidden oasis within the concrete jungle that is Tokyo.
As you walk around the shrine grounds and torii gate laden paths. The trees that block out all other buildings and city noise makes you forget the fact that you're actually in the center of the largest metropolis city in the world.
Shinto shrines are regarded as a spiritual world that is separate from the mortal world. But Nezu Shrine is more than just that. You are able to escape the everyday stress that comes from living in a major city. You can relax in undisturbed tranquillity and forget about the stresses of your life for a brief moment.

And if you ever wish to make a visit to this hidden gem on your next visit to Tokyo. Nezu Shrine is only a 5 minute walk away from Nezu Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.

@BritishLuvie I’m really loving these posts. These are the hidden sites and places I loved stumbling upon when I would get lost
Getting off the tourist path and onto the hidden paths is the best way of exploring Japan. Sometimes the best places that you come across are through getting lost and just stumbling across them.

Though I first heard about Nezu Shrine years ago from my wife when I wanted to visit some of Tokyo's hidden gems. (My three favourite hidden gems in Tokyo are Nezu Shrine, Hie Shrine and Gotokuji Temple)
