What are your thoughts on this year-end award shows being BTS concerts feat. other artists? (1 Viewer)

I understand that success should be celebrated and that recognition is in order but giving BTS 30+ minute segments while someone who may have not been successful over the world but was very successful in Korea gets barely 3 minutes to perform simply seems unjust to me. Both MMA and MAMA gave 10% of their entire screen time to "Evolution of BTS". This is what concerts are for. Award shows are there to give the spotlight to ALL artists who deserve one. Yes, BTS absolutely deserve all the success they have, but others deserve recognition, too. I read somewhere that MMA's BTS segment cost more than all other stages combined. This is absurd to me.

Again, I am happy that they swept the daesangs, they deserve them. At least awards are no longer fairly distributed it seems, and I'm okay with that. But give others time to shine as well.

I feel like they are pushing it too much. Big Bang's MAMA performances were like what 15 mins? Less than 20 anyways, and for non-fans that was already too much. Personally I want to see more collabs from year end show and remixes from various artists. I feel like some bigger shows just didn't have enough groups and artist performing this year and that made them look boring even before watching.

I feel like they are pushing it too much. Big Bang's MAMA performances were like what 15 mins? Less than 20 anyways, and for non-fans that was already too much. Personally I want to see more collabs from year end show and remixes from various artists. I feel like some bigger shows just didn't have enough groups and artist performing this year and that made them look boring even before watching.

There are still collabs (like JYP and MAMAMOO) but nowhere near to what they used to be. And yes, major artists boycotting the show doesn't help either. But on the other hand, that would give other artists a chance to shine. I was so happy to see ATEEZ and ONEUS for example. I had the impression that A.C.E was a bit more popular than them, but I guess not.

I already expect BTS to be the closing stage and have the most time but there should be a cap on the longest any act should be allowed to go. 20-25 mins is more than enough for the closing stage. Even TXT got like 12 mins in addition to BTS' 40 at MMA to keep BigHit happy while seasoned vets Mamamoo who are known to be great live performers barely got 7 mins, it's a joke.

That 40 min peformance at MMA was a bit much and there was a lot of unnecessary stuff in the performance (like idk why they gave all the members solo... Jin and Yoongi mostly did nothing just standing there + the part before dionysus was ??? I still dont get why was that so long). So it was more than 40+ but it could have been 20 min simply if they didnt bring every living thing on the stage

I still enjoyed their performance and I think the other artist didnt get less time because of them (I mean there was like 7 - or a bit more I dont remember, I didnt watch it tbh - artist, if MMA wanted they could have give more so idk why is this happened)

Idc that bts sweeped the daesangs because who else was gonna get them? But I do agree that the stage time should have been divided more evenly. But at the same time, mmas lineup was kinda underwhelming. Bts was really the only main act along with a few others. I saw txts time to and kinda thought it was a little ridiculous because even other big three groups never got that much time when they were rookies. I think award shows were definitely catering towards big hit this year. But you know at least the performance was great. I think that if more big acts attended this year then it would have been different.

They were supposed to perform HIP but it got cut which is why their stage ended with the cut thing.

Hardly any of my faves were nominated for stuff this year (and they were going to lose anyway) so didn’t bother watching. 40mins for an award show’s performance though seems way too excessive. I mean no doubt Army loved it, but I also wouldn’t have been surprised if the other fans left early to beat traffic or get earlier buses/trains.

For me personally it was great considering there weren't really any artists aside from BTS attending this year that i've been particularly interested in seeing at all, but I understand the frustration from the fans of the other artists performing, since I would be pretty upset too if I wasn't so far up BTS' asses lol

I absolutely loved every single aspect of BTS' performance including all the solo stages and i'm glad I got to see them all, but I would have been just as greatful if they cut the entire performance in half.

And also, since Mnet is no stranger to doing BTS specials, they could've just made a 'BTS evolution' or something and aired it after MAMA rather than cut into other artist's time during MAMA, MAMA this year was essentially a BTS special episode anyway so it's not like it would be a huge loss for them to have just seperated them a bit.

Lame. Bts didn’t even release enough songs for them to do all that so they either have to perform those boring bsides (except dinosaur, it’s alr) or the songs that flopped for a reason (MAMA).

Chungha, Itzy, Taeyeon, SVT, Mamamoo, etc did amazing this year and even though I didn’t appreciate some of their songs, they were more than elevator tunes to keep you preoccupied

I mean GD said years ago that MAMA specifically caters to what's new and hot. It's a popularity contest that they trade between acts.

I've been with BTS since 2015 but it was too much. A lot of it wasn't necessary or a coherent performance tbh. I really like the end of the year to see remixed and reimagining of songs from all the artist in attendance not just my faves.

Also let's not act like that wasn't a big F You to YG & SM and other notable companies that didn't send anyone. Like I really want Gidle to perform Lion...
