No, Big Bangs exact problem is that they don’t have a big fandom. If you want to stick in America and actually stay for the long run like bts then you need a big ass fandom to back you up. Artists like Ariana grande, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyoncé all have these huge fandoms that buy concert tickets, stream, buy albums, Request for radio play etc. and while Big Bang May have gp appeal, so does bts. I mean bwl probably is the best charting idol song this year, and spring day is still on the charts despite being two years old. . I think that ygs biggest mistakes is never focusing on fandoms, he always thinks that he can just be carried by the gp which totally holds back his groups from becoming more successful in the long run.

Big Bang won't surpass BTS as they have never ever been the top group for fandom with Super Junior, Girls' Generation, EXO and BTS all have been bigger than them at one point in time in that department. Big Bangs strength has always been they are well liked with the public which is why they are able to top Melon like they do and while IU has surpassed Taeyeon in album sales, Big Bangs best selling album is still from 2008.

Big Bang have an undoubtable legendary presence in K-pop but they aren't picking up a high amount of the type of fans they'd need to beat BTS.

It's too early to tell if they will be able to rise to BTS level but one things for sure. The fact they are coming back together for Coachella means they are staying together and that means they will single handedly resurrect YG Entertainment.

I don't think YG has aimed for physical sales that much, bulk buying just doesn't seem to be thing in the fandom and they have adapted digital releases and crystal cases for physicals especially in late years. What comes to Spotify and Apple Music, I feel like they are newer services that older groups and their fandoms just haven't adapted that well

that's why I said its probably one of ygs biggest problems is never developing a good fanbase and always aiming for gp appeal. it hinders their groups from being able to achieve more. and I think that yg thinks that if you have a big fandom then you cant have gp support which isn't true, bts is an example of a group that has a huge fandom and gp support and its why they're hard to compete with. also yeah older fandoms aren't used to the new streaming era but if big bang ever wanted to compete with bts then they would need big numbers on platforms like Spotify and apple music.

BigBang are living legends who led the Asian music industry and began and fronted the Kpop Hallyu Wave for a decade, they don't need to prove themselves or compete with anyone.
