Every single company is doing dirty shit to their artist.

Name any company and someone can tell you something they did dirty as hell.

Name any job you've had where once hired you had to pay 60 THOUSAND DOLLARS before you could even start working. That's complete bullshit. All that is is an excuse to never have to pay your employees in their entire career.

All these companies that do this type of shady shit just to be cheap as hell and try to get ahead is really starting to piss me off.

I honestly dont know how much longer I can support this industry.

Korea is still at least a century behind the West when it comes to respect and fair treatment of its workers.

Tbh, if fans from every fandom all began to work together to boycott the industry until changes were made, something would have to happen. Though that obviously won't ever happen, so this mistreatment within the companies continues. At this rate, I don't know what more it'll take before change can finally be made. The industry just seems to stay to its toxic ways within companies.

Where there is power there are people who will abuse that power, not every company is bad though, they might be flawed but not necessarily bad like even if Source Music has their faults like being tight when it comes to money at times, I however cannot say they've really treated Gfriend bad.

power is always being abused. I do get why people don‘t want to support kpop. There are multiple reasons that I do understand. But honestly the world of music always and always will be with companies that take advantage of those dependant on them.

I was thinking of bouncing because of the decline in music quality to be honest-basically every industry is shady af even in America. So like I don't know what more you can do because it's not like everyone will stop supporting those institutions. I know I'd lose my mind if I stopped listening to music or watching shows and tv.

I just meh...I will say the quality of Kpop has dropped a lot for me though.

Yes but this is quite common tho
If you knew McDonald's would let you pay, would you even apply for a job there?
Even if you don't know, everyone with common sense knows that these 5+ years of intense trainings aren't for free

Like a few others have said, almost every type of industry has it’s flaws. If you stop supporting Kpop then you might as well stop supporting almost every other kind of industry as well because unfortunately a lot happens behind the scenes. I 100% understand why some choose to stop supporting Kpop but in the end I don’t think it would do much, people are still going to have dreams about becoming an idol and other people want to support these hard working idols and the music they create.

Maybe do it for the artists, when you are sure it'll make their lives better?

Imo the number of people supporting it are only going to increase. Rather than boycotting it I think it would be more effective to push for change in the industry. To me it seems like there are changes happening with so much mess being brought to light, hopefully they'll continue happening and eventually it'll be less corrupt.

Tbh I’m tempted to leaving after all of this; it would take a lot work to regulate the Kpop industry. Boycotting might be the most effective way as companies seek to make a profit but I do place my hope in the younger generations to make change. Idk I don’t see change happening anytime soon

There r still some western music labels who treat their artists well, mostly i can think of is indie labels/indie artists like REM, U2(not indie but come from ireland i consider them slightly differently), then artists i know of like Syzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Rachael Yamagata n Vienna Teng who arent in big labels but get their music released how they want it,tho vega rerecorded her songs again to regain sth, profits from sales to the rerecordings probably.

Ive read sth similar happening maybe w/acting or some other industry where the hiring person asks you for kickbacks or sth to hire you. Illegal as hell but i think western companies hv been accused of doing this way before korean companies did it. Ok i hv no concrete proof othercthan vague memories of hearing/reading abt this. So take it with a grain of salt, but i absolutely believe this has happened in the history of western companies. But maybe not so blatantly as 60,000 bucks.

Honestly, I wanted to stop being a fan or know anything more about this industry. I stayed away from it for months last year. Because of the filthiness and mistreatment, because of how much sadness I feel about certain aspects and tragic events within this industry. But the truth is, and not just for Kpop, Korean music in general, I love it too much and since finding my passion for it, it's helped me out with so many things and I'm always thankful to these artists. I love the artists, I love music. Rather than leave it all behind, I want to keep supporting the artists and listening. I wish for change to come in this industry, even though I doubt it'll ever happen.
