kneeling down to touch the past
my life rewinds fast like television remotes
on edge, on the end of a ledge

I write down my thoughts into feelings
mending the healing of my heart
was dumb young
now grown up smart
darts aiming for my head
never better off dead

Every writer has their own voice and style
We filter our voices through those styles
To create prose and poetry

Some writers
Know themselves well enough
To acquire their style quickly
Which then evolves over time

Other writers
Are akin to magpies
Birds that collect things
And they write what strikes their fancy
Such as rhymes or sonnets

The second kind of writer
Might be embarrassed or even ashamed
Of their indecisiveness
And may even think that they're not
Following the right path
As a writer

But as a wise friend once told me
Some writers simply prefer
To take the scenic route

They enjoy collecting "shinies"
And drinking in the trochaic-lake here
And having a sniff of the haiku-flowers there

In a way
Both kinds of writers are like this
Because whether you evolve on a straight path
Or one that winds around and around
There will always be those lakes
And there will always be those flowers

Which is to say
That both kinds of writers
Strive to grow and to achieve
And hunger for knowledge
As well as beauty in their art

They go about this in their own ways
On their own paths
But both know the value
In a joyous artistic journey

So whether you evolve along a straight path
Or along a path that winds, rises, and falls
Both kinds of writers are equally deserving
And I wish us all the best in our endeavors

May our paths forever intertwine
As we each invoke the spirit of our chosen artform
Forever along this glorious journey
