Being a better dancer does not mean that you are a better performer (1 Viewer)

am I the only one who thinks this? I think that a lot of kpop fans think that just because you're a better dancer, it automatically makes you a better performer then everyone else. I really don't think this is true. there are a shit ton of amazing dancers in kpop who fail to actually perform if that makes sense? are they hitting the moves? yes. but are they making anyone actually feel anything? in a sense are they performing or is this just another dance practice to them? that's a question I ask a lot when watching kpop performances.

for example, I saw this CL performance the other day and had goosebumps at the end of it. is CL the best dancer in kpop? no. but she filled up that stage like nobody's business.

Dancing is just 1 thing and it's good thing to have, but You also need the voice, Charisma and stage presence. Just as important.
This is why Rain is the best performer in kpop he has it all.

The performance is the whole package, dancing is just one part of that package, in that package there can also be singing, facial expressions, body language, and even charm, so yeah I agree with you~

That being said I think that some people look down on those who dance really well and say that they're robots who can't actually perform and that they're less than others but I think that's not true either. You can have your preferences but saying that they can't perform simply because they dance in sync is ridiculous

agree. Dancing in sync doesn't mean that they're robots, they're just following the choreo.

Facial expressions, voice, how well you give across emotion, dance skills and that all hopefully mashes up into... STAGE PRESENCE

these attributes all contribute. Being good at just one of those isn't enough.

My favourite example of this would be exo's Kai and exo's Lay

Kai is eithout a doubt the better performer.
Lay on the other hand, while he is a better singer and i would argue as far as pure technical skills goes, the better dancer.... He isnt the better performer.

That is bcs Lay tends to practice everything to the last detail to be machine-like in it's perfection, while Kai goes with the flow and mood of the performance more.

I agree, I enjoy when dancers in kpop get to show their technical side but to me your supposed to be a performer first. sure you can land the moves, but what else are you doing?

also i agree with the kai part. he's a great performer. I stumbled across a few of his fancams the other day and was watching them. he looks like he enjoys every performance even though he's probably performed the same song multiple times. the small smiles between moves really get me. these are some of my favorites:

I will talk about girl groups because I know them more than boy groups. I agree with you because 2NE1 and Mamamoo are often praised as some of the best performers in the industry whereas they aren’t known to be strong dancing groups except for Minzy.

Some singers can also command of the stage with theirs voices only.

exactly, vocalists can be better performers then dancers sometimes simply because of the way they convey emotions. adele is not a dancer and she sold out Wembley stadium. sometimes people just want to be able to feel and not just watch if that makes sense?

there needs to be a blend of everything. for example in my opinion Taemin is one of the best performers. Not only is he one of the best dancers, he is able to show a story through his dancing in a very creative way, can also sing and has this passion in his eyes when he is on stage. he is what I would call a full package

His smiles are god damn everything. He has said he is the happiest on stage performing, that dancing on stage is just pure bliss for him... AND IT SHOWS!
