Idols who become proto-celebrities within the west tend to have a short shelf life... What I mean is that, yes, while Gangnam Style was huge (for some reason) in the US, it did not propel him into further success. He had some works with Snoop Dogg, but outside of Gangnam Style he is not known well is the west... So an Idol or Group may gain some popularity for a time, but is usually based on specific things and when it ends people tend to forget.. While I could bring up Gangnam Style and everyone will remember it, the subsequent work by Psy, most likely won't be known by the majority in the west. Plus K-Pop in general, in the west, is stigmatized [to an extent] based on many factors ranging from image to thirsty fanbases and target demographic.
