Actually, the only thing confusing on the thread is the inclusion of BoA because she was heavily influenced by Britney Spears to start with. For males, I agree that MJ is probably the biggest inspiration overall but I'd say that N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys are closer in style to the first kpop boy groups.

BoA - she sings well above average and is a dance god in Korea. To the point that Taeyeon stopped having solo comebacks because she felt she could not preform to BoA's level, and that is the standard in her head.

Other than that as soloist maybe Beyonce impacted the main vocal types.
I seriously doubt many of this or last gen listened to Madonna or Janet except professionally (aka after they started training maybe the agencies had them).
That leaves Britney, i have at least seen a few kpop Britney covers but they were the better part a of a decade ago. She is more kpop style than any of the other western acts.
BoA has zillions more covers by every gen except those that precede her like finkl ses ect.

in KPOP is was more like the iconic boy groups and girl groups of the 80's and 90's and the influence of Seo Taiji and Boys which was something that inspired Lee So Man to make H.O.T aka. the group that really started what we know KPOP as.

I think it was more like the types of nsync, backstreet boys, destiny's child, spice girls, etc. who were the inspirations for kpop. And some Michael Jackson, which we see a lot of.
