I have never made an issue about it; but I sometimes write gray and some other times I write grey. Usually it depends on the spelling of the people I'm talking (writing) to. If I'm spelling the word without that context; I don't remember having any preference, so I go for however I feel like writing it in the moment.

GREY! Not motherducking gray.

I'm from America and in elementary school it was grey. Just one day computers came along claiming it was spelt wrong. Just like the motherducking word spelt, spelled and spelt are appropriate. Though gray remains so freaking wrong to me and I feel like burning this post for making me spell it with an a.

Ahaha I use mostly British English but some words I prefer using American English

When I was learning English, we focused on American English but on our last course they taught me British spelling and even some words that are more common in UK and Australia.

partially that, and partially when i write grey it usually was a color, not the name. I think Gray as a name is usually spelled with an a, if i'm not wrong.

For the color gray i am pretty sure cannot remember the last time i used it unprompted.
Especially since i tend to spell as read and i live in the US :).
Names as spelled.
