Ok, so here in the UK, it is Black Pound Day, which means you are encouraged to buy from business owned by Black people.

I dunno about you but I think this is going to cause even more problems as we are segregating certain communities.
I believe business was about building relationships and having certain products that people need/want and it should never matter what race or culture you are doing business with.

I understand that we need to make change, but is this really the way to go about it?

Very true. Now this could cause issues with people thinking anyone not spending money on black-owned businesses once a month means you don't care. Cuz you know what some people are like.

People should be spending money on items/products etc they need, not because of forced "obligation". Naturally money should be spent on all types of business, whether they are family or corporate owned, and regardless of race etc.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. I don't think anyone goes into a shop thinking they want to buy because the owners are of a certain race or culture, they go into a shop because they have things they need or want.

Exactly. If we are going to focus on businesses in just one culture/community, then how will other businesses survive?
I know it's for just 1 day a month, but that one day could be critical.

i'm not from the uk so i might not know enough about this but i personally see nothing wrong in it. encouraging to support black owned businesses does not equal suddenly boycotting all non-black owned businesses. also it's literally just one day and no one is really obligated to do anything so there shouldn't be any problem with this.

In what way is encouraging people to support black businesses segregation?
Nobody is saying white businesses are bad or need to be boycotted, just consider supporting small black owned businesses if you want.
Equity is needed to achieve equality sometimes

Aren't you also forgetting about Asian businesses and Latino businesses? That's what so many people are doing, they think it's all about White vs Black, but there are other races and cultures too and I don't know why it should be race vs race in the first place.
It's segregation because it's singling out an entire race and either giving them better treatment or worse treatment.

If I go into a store and they happen to have what I want/need, then I will shop in that store and if they happen to be Black, then that is fine, just like if they happen to be White, Latino, Asian, Gay, Straight, etc, then that is also fine.

it's not really a rule though is it? no one is forced to buy only from black-owned businesses on that day or any day, it was made just to encourage people to give them support and appreciation and i don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. after all you're free to buy what you want, it's not that serious.

And did you or will you actually make it a point to support latinx or Asian businesses either? I don't get why people suddenly care about communities they've never supported in the first place to intervene when one wants to lift themselves. Someone could use this as a day to support minorities business in general.

If you don't wanna do it, don't. If others want to, then good for them. Supporting local communities should never be an issue especially considering how much small business is declining despite its importance

umm... I think it is important to buy from black businesses. Especially when products that are marketed toward black women (i.e. Beauty Supplies) in Walmart are often associated with bigger corporations that aren't made by black women.. Thus, there should be increased support for these local small businesses where products for black women are actually made by black women.

I think it’s a lovely idea and shouldn’t just stay for a day. supporting small businesses is always good and especially those black businesses need support and care and we all can contribute in that
