I'll try to find other sources to back it up in a bit but here is what I've found for now.

EXO-L have known this for a while, Marz has done a few lives before showing his love for EXO whilst criticising SM. I’m not surprised he’s angry. This is just SM showing their greed and wanting more of the money from sales.

The law on this is pretty cut and dry.
the most that could be at issue is the structure of the writing groups. ie Teams may get compensated differently than individuals, so if you are part of a team like say the producers and you leave said team . I do not think the deal changes.

To make it clear for anyone who doesn't understand: the artists are still allowed to sing it (EXO is still allowed to sing Kokobop e.g.) but it can't be on dvd's etc. Cherry Bomb for example will be removed from the Beyond Live version. They'll never sing it on programs again too.

Marz had some unreleased songs with SM so they're in the weeds right now. This might chance SM's previous schedules
