The downfall of teen romances/comedies (1 Viewer)

I legitimately like watching teen romances/comedies, even if I'm not as much of a teen anymore (19), they can be a guilty pleasure of mine.
I enjoy the classics like Mean Girls, Clueless, Freaky Friday/Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (?), Scott Pilgrim (let's count it tbh), and I even enjoy The Duff (2015) as a real guilty pleasure bc I find Mae Whitman to be cute and charming.

But I was watching video essays for Sierra Burgess is a Big Loser (?) and the Kissing Booth and they just rub me the wrong way. Are there any good teen comedies/romances nowadays or are they just shallow with not a lot of fun :/ They seem so disingenuous to me or the plot is just.....?????? Like I can have a sucky plot and still have fun but I do'nt get these nowadays, they're just cringey

There are great movies like The Spectacular Now and Lady Bird with teen protagonists but they're not what you'd call teenage movies or rom-coms. They're more like coming of age stories. But amazing, both of them.

dont forget this disgrace. i read the first book just cause all harry styles fans seem to be really good at fanfics but dropped it out of frustration on the second book. its fine if its just a fanfic where people can find and enjoy. but why are they releasing crap like this in theaters?

I blame it all on Fifty Shades- started as a Twilight fanfic and became a franchise of its own

truth his acting was ehhhh and the plot for the whole movie was honestly so cringy

I honestly liked The Kissing Booth way better

Kissing Booth even has tragic ratings ~
But I will say, I do enjoy them less now. Guess because they aren't as relatable anymore :(

I was watching a review of Sierra Burgess and she is a total psycho :oof_tea: I think there are still good movies and stuff out there but there seems to be less creativity
