I don't know but then I'm thinking to broadly in a way that none of us know the person who we use as dps personally and yet we do so for support and aesthetic reasoning.
I always wondered if people we use could see us and see the things we type using there images what would they think?

But on topic it's not that weird alot of people just pick pictures they like on a general basis, but it works better with anime and meme, it a little weird with celebrities and such.

Tbh at the same time, this "real fan" discussion sometimes get so silly.

Like "if you play candy crush you're not a true gamer", "If you don't read Batman comics, you can't say you're a true fan".

Like who cares about labels.

Coming from anime communities this annoys me so much.

Oddly I have had this conversation with women the most, I'd say I like gaming, they come with oh me too and starts discussing mobile games which is fine (I play them to) but then I can't share anything console or pc related cause they it's 'I never played that or that seems boring' makes the convo fall short Irl of course, I meet alot of women I don't click with hobbies wise.. I will never have lady friends TT lol... But Online you can fake it well and yeah elitist bullshit is the worst.

Theoretically someone can listen to weird stuff and say that is a fan of music.

The terms we use for everything don't help a lot.
