Kpop has "borrowed" a lot of things from jpop
or well I wouldn't even say kpop has done it, SM ent. has borrowed those things and then the rest of the industry followed suit!

Lightsticks - first done in jpop
Fan chants - first done in jpop
Idols overall - first done in jpop

graduation system (not really used much in kpop, but still) - from jpop
Whatever tf you wanna call the system NCT has - from jpop

overall there is like.... only one really BIG thing that seperates kpop from being knock-off jpop.... the trainee system. That's the one thing SM thought up on his own!

Do y'all know of any other things kpop has "borrowed" from jpop?

wasn't the trainee system also inspired by the jpop industry?
but like,, the foundations of kpop are basically all from jpop
I mean...... jpop doesn't really do trainees the way kpop does, being trained for years by the company
The company might like prepare the members a bit for a few months
The idols might have taken or take lessons on their own

But there isn't like.... systematic training the way there is in kpop

Nah, the artist development style that we now refer to as the trainee system was actually inspired by Motown Records.

not to mention the fact western music first did the trainee system. their is a show on netflix that covers this i forgot what the name of the show was.
Honestly this is what makes me kinda admire Lee Sooman. He..... hasn't exactly come up with anything revolutionary on itself.
BUT, he knew what was like the end goal he wanted to achieve so he used already existing concepts and ideas to reach that goal.
