Are you proud to be a kpop fan? (1 Viewer)

I have my ups and downs. A couple years ago I was very proud of being a kpop fan because I felt like the industry was releasing really solid music and the fandoms were not nearly as out of control as they are now.

Nowadays I think I might hesitate saying I'm a kpop fan especially to a complete stranger because of the prejudice that comes with that fact. I don't even think that they are wrong to have those prejudices against the kpop fandom necessarily because the vocal minority becoming majority on social media have really made the fandom toxic.

I don't think I'm ashamed of being a fan of kpop, I just don't really announce that fact to people anymore.

in general you shouldn't be responsible for someone else being an axxhole and you shouldn't be tied to them just because you both like the same genre of music

Sure, i just do not expect anyone else to understand or like it.
Lol early this year my great great boss (just below the ceo at least 5 leadership levels up) it was like the first thing he asked me about(like we just happened to pass in the hall and he is based in a different state .)
Its scary enough they know your name and face let alone my hobbies have trickled up to him...

In my opinion, I think being happy is way more different than being proud.
Well it used to be at first, but the situation is quite different now for me. I'm happy that I'm a Kpop fan, but not proud of being one. I talk about Kpop with my friends, my siblings, my parents (though they laugh at me some times lol) but not in front of strangers and my neighbours.
One day my aunt made fun of me comparing me to a friend of her daughter, who tried to cut her hand because her friend used to like Taehyung (BTS). She made fun of me saying that someday I might do the same. Am I that foolish to do such a thing?? My mom was so angry and blamed her reminding aunt’s craziness for an actor in her childhood. Aunt was speechless at that time.
The other thing is that fandoms being the most toxic. Those kinda things sometimes made me sad of Kpop, but I never felt ashamed of Kpop.
Anyhow, I’m happy of Kpop because it keeps me happy all the time and now I’m not fully bothered about what other ppl say about me when it comes to Kpop.

Yeah. People are gonna have their assumptions about different fandoms. It is what it is.

I know who I am as an individual KPop fan, what I like/dislike, and what I do/don't do; that's all that matters.

How the hell did he know you were a kpop fan? Do you go around discussing it with your co workers? Or are they stalking you online?

Yeah. Everyone is not the same. <3
My aunt's target is always to hurt somebody and showing she, her daughters and her husband are the best. So I'm not cared about her stupid stuff.
