4th gen kpop is well underway and hot new groups like Aespa and StayC are debuting.

Yet I don't care. Instead of consuming todays girl group content 24/7 I'm getting more and more into 1st gen.

Especially Lee Jung Hyun. She's become my favorite soloist ever. I've been watching her live performances from 1999 to 2004 nonstop.

I've gotten so old I don't have time for todays kids.

4th gen is just more of the same anyway.

There's definitely a different feel to early kpop that I wish new kpop found.

A rawness. Weirdness. And uniqueness.

Everything seems so polished now.

Maybe it's just the nature of nostalgia for older days gone by.

But there is a different feel to so much from earlier eras.

Both of you just need to get over the fact that your bones are creaky now , no amount of nostalgia will get rid of your incoming hip transplants

Interestingly this is how I feel about kdramas.

As you know I'm a huge kdrama buff.

But I find it harder to get into new kdramas.

They're all too slick and produced. Too much money. Too much prestige and international attention.

They're all trying to make "movies" now that wow international audiences and gain their respect. Get Netflix deals and the like.

But they've forgotten what made kdramas so special in the first place.

A raw do it yourself melodramatic quality. That wasn't trying for prestige or "filmic" like sophistication.

Counterintuitively. In my opinion the more international respect kdramas get the worse I think they get. They become more like international films and shows.

Kdramas were magical because they weren't like Hollywood.

Anyways, I miss kdramas of old.

And relate to your feeling on kpop only mines with kdramas.

Ngl a lot of the 4th Gen (and even 3rd Gen) sound like rehashes of everything we've already heard before but the newer kpop stans wouldn't know any better and think it's new. This was less of a big deal when there weren't so many damn groups, but now it's over saturated.

Ngl I'm bored with most of the newer stuff but I guess one or two here and there still happen to pull me in somehow.

I think it's also cause technically 1st gen is MY generation. I was born in 78. The same year as H.O T.'s Moon and Tony, G.O.D.'s Kyesang, 1TYME's Teddy, and many others. So if I was a kpop idol I would have been active around 1996 to 2006.

Maybe that's why I have been gravitating to this era more lately compared to the new stuff.

Yes you've made it known numerous times you are not a fan of the direction kpop is going.

And I agree 100%. You can borrow and be influenced by the west like you've always been. But keep korean in kpop please.
