Till recently I myself also didn't understand this since to me it seemed like before the groups that debut were mostly nugus with almost nothing to push them further and they'd just end up in the gutter next to the more popular groups that weren't slowing down.
While now, we have a multiple factors coming together to push it all.

1) Companies take a long time usually to debut groups so some of the groups started developing as BTS started getting popular and are only now coming out
2) A lot of current bg's are Wanna One/X1 members, and the other people around them. And these people make sales high, pretty easily.
3) Downfall of popular bg's - B1A4, iKON, BTOB, SHINee, SUJU, BAP, Block B, EXO, Highlight... all of these groups are either, disbanded, have members in the army or release music so rarely you periodically forget they exist anymore. That leaves a lot of room for people that are specifically interested in boy groups to grow and get fans. Especially through similar music like the styles that have been used regularly.
4) I recently went through most active, known boy groups currently. And I kid you not, maybe 2 of them had sales under 100k and their sales were 80K or smn like that. Most of them didn't start off with these sales but over time grew to these heights, which is truly fascinating to me honestly since before, barely any group had good enough sales to stay afloat.
5) Int fans actually matter now, there are so many overseas fans that having any interest internationally can significantly boost your groups status. ATEEZ and A.C.E. being the biggest benefactors imo.

There's other stuff but I just wanted to state a few that i noticed recently.

I don't understand the answer. Girl groups seem to be more versatile while guy groups are put in the same box again and again. I was more into guy groups when we had bands like Infinite, Beast, EXO, BAP, 2PM, & BTS as well as MBLAQ dominating ht emarket or B1A4. They all had their own sound or style that was distinctly different from the other.

a lot of newer guy groups seem to all have the same sound and style that makes them all too similar to each other. I just realized today that I kept on mixing up Verivery and Victon because for some reason I thought they were the same group. I like versatility and despite this, I feel like many newer guy groups do not bring that.

Pentagon I think does this a bit their song Basquiat really impressed me and ATEEZ does this as well. OH, also I think TXT is also becoming a contender for releasing music that seems to stand out from the rest sound and concept-wise. I don't hate guy groups I just want more variety from them because the sounds and concepts they go for now aren't appealing to me and the songs start to all become one in my head. It sucks.

I don't understand why it's a thing where they all follow one trend. Also, I realize I might've missed some guy groups on this list who do produce or release unique music that somewhat stands out or does stand out.

There are so many boy groups that failed pre Produce 101 because they didn't get the same amount of promotion through survival shows, many of them that I found interesting and promising. They couldn't get a steady fanbase big enough internationally nor nationally.

Nowadays survival shows can be used to promote new groups but at the same time some of the survival shows completely waste the talents that they recruited. For example, I think UNB was completely wasted when they had so much potential and had many talented people in it. I barely saw any promotion for them and eventually forgot that they existed as soon as they released their first music videos.

One group that has managed to stand out from the rest has been Ateez, another that debuted this year has been MCND. The efforts to really make them stand out has benefited them a lot. For Ateez, I feel like they didn't really try to individualize the appeals of the members early on but they eventually hit their stride and started to distinguish each member as being a separate talent that worked together amazingly in a group. Before, even with Pirate King and Treasure, they didn't try that hard and though I love those songs, KQ definitely didn't feel like they were trying to make the members that distinct.

The thing is. They just don't have to be unique. Unless they are from a lesser known company like ATEEZ they have no real reason.

I recommend listening to CIX and AB6IX if you haven't since they, to me, tend to have a different feel in their songs from the standard. Tho I'm biased towards bg's since I just like that type of music regardless. I'm essentially part of the reasons there are so many similar groups, cause people want that, similar enough to still like it, different enough to not notice. :sanathink:

UNB will forever be in my heart as one of my favorite groups and group of people that I really really liked as people individually too. They seemed much less fake when compared to Produce for example.

And yea, unless you're a group from a unknown company you won't get "different" music. Tho I still enjoy all of it for the most part.

Maybe it's because even before I went into Kpop I listened to music from all over I don't like listening or stanning groups that all sound the same or super similar. I feel like it's kind of cheap on the company's ends to be so uncreative with their sounds. Once again no hate to guy groups I have nothing against them personally and wish them well and also success.

But groups like SM and YG (sometimes), as well as BigHit, are bigger companies that do try to be experimental with their boy groups so you could make the point that bigger groups from bigger companies are more unique because they don't have to worry about losing a fanbase because of a different sound. WHile smaller groups from smaller companies have to stick to a specific style in order to garner attention and the basis for a solid fanbase BEFORE they can experiment.
