Twice, BlackPink, ITZY, IZ*ONE and (G)I-DLE. Maybe? Idk. I’m missing RV pretty badly.

It's no longer as cut and dry as a few years ago tbh. What's for sure is GFriend has left the top 5.

Blackpink, Twice, IZ*ONE, Red Velvet, Mamamoo are the most obvious answers.

BUT IZ*ONE disbands in April, which leaves a 5th spot quite open- sure to be hotly contested between (G)I-dle and Itzy. Both are pretty neck and neck although ITZY is slightly ahead but IDLE always catches up and then ITZY has to do better and back and forth they go.

Then there's Oh My Girl. If we talk domestically alone, they're top 5 right now- might even be top 3. Their digitals are on par with the best groups, all members have solo activities, chart high on brand reputation. But their fandom is smaller and internationally they are much further behind, although in Korea they're definitely bigger than IDLE and ITZY.

There's a lot of competition atm lol.

idk who it would be after Iz*one disbands. G-idle and Itzy are doing pretty good but their not on par with the other 4 imo.
Gfriend are no longer part of the top 5.
I feel like its still too early to tell for omg, they're def part of the top 5 for this year but not overall.

I'd say Itzy are quite a bit ahead of (G)I-dle since the best (G)I-dle have done in terms of songs is Latata with Dumdi Dumdi doing similar to it but then you look at this list of 2020 girl group song digital points up until November and it shows Itzy did better overall.

Not to mention the Gaon sales at the end of the year where Itzy charted in the top 50 with Not Shy selling over 200k and (G)I-dle weren't in the top 50 so if I had to give the 5th spot to someone other than Iz*One right now i'd just give it to Itzy. Oh My Girl are untested if their digital power will last and they don't sell a huge amount of albums for nowadays either so right now they could be called the digital version of Iz*One but if their digitals don't last then they hold no footing in a top ranking.

I would argue though that as a whole this top 5 girl group has lost its shine as other than 5 being used for tops pretty often however it was also because of Blackpink, Gfriend, Mamamoo, Red Velvet and Twice being above every other group at the time with only I.O.I giving them competition. Now however making a top 5 now we have Blackpink who is above every other group as Twices digitals aren't great now so they're like Iz*One now where they are only really strong physically where as Red Velvet and Mamamoo do better digitally but their physicals aren't as hard to achieve now with how the market has grown.

Overall the market is allowing groups to close in on Twice, Red Velvet and Mamamoo as physicals grow and their digitals have became inconsistent to allow them to really take advantage of the growing market and that's without even considering how their activity will be from now on as Red Velvet and Mamamoo are 7 years old now so if they stop being as active that'll definitely hurt their ability to grow in this market and they'll just end up falling behind.
