Well IU is on top for soloists and I don't see anyone reaching her level let alone surpassing her but if you're talking about just 3rd generation then well Hwasa just exploded in popularity for her mukbangs and reached a point where she's popular for her now basically

Well, I don't think CL and Hyolyn should be compared with Hwasa. Not only because they belong to a different gen but Hyolyn was extremely popular at her peak and by that time CL barely had one korean single, the only one she actually promoted...
I could write a whole essay about how YGE curses every female artist in the company, just as someone pointed out, is mostly about luck.

In terms of CL and Hyolyn (besides company sabotage) their a perfect example of how hard it is to regain or maintain attention as an “older” kpop idol without the support of an established company and after the initial peak.

Somi is under YG lol. The BP strategy probably won’t work with a soloist.

Chungha is doing perfectly fine. She was listed as #3 in female soloist & overall solo acts by Industry insiders in 2020. She just doesn’t have the fanfare from Ifans because she wasn’t/in a top 3rd GG and her songs don’t always top the music charts that I-fans are obsessed with.

Hwasa had 4years as one of the top 3rd Gen GG and then the 1,2,3, punch of Give It To Me, Twit and Maria.
