Which do you prefer?

Some groups go on hiatus for YEARS without any information on when they'll comeback. For example, After School. Their fans are left to play a guessing game and look for clues within IG posts. Whilst other groups, such as SISTAR choose to have a clean disbandment and then maybe re-group for an anniversary comeback or something.

Clean disbandment.
I don't like when someone dangles a carrot in front of you that you can never reach.

I was a Play Girlz for like two years, and gave up, so ofc clean disbandment
For the sake of argument, wouldn't you rather be left with the hope of the group coming back rather than no hope at all?

That happens so rarely though, the chance of a group to actually have a comeback is so low. I might as well hope to win the lottery or something.

That's a good point, but I don't want to stay attached for like a year with no activities, no promotions, nothing, with them locked in a dungeon somewhere. I'd rather they disband and have a career after their group work ends.

Yeah I definitely share the same sentiments on that. I feel like some fans get over attached to the groups and don't think about the futures of the members.

I hate it when groups are on hiatus. I rather know what's really going on than waiting around for news

Definitely. It's not always going to be a perfect group future, they also have the right to go solo and build their own careers.

Definitely a clean disbandment.
I hate when groups just disappear.

But it's like you said in your OP as long as all of the members get along, there is always the hope of some sort of re-grouping or anniversary comeback at some point. The only difference between a hiatus and a clean disbandment is that a) the members are more freely able to pursue their solo endeavours under different companies b) their original company can't make money off of the old group name anymore.

I feel like the only reason SM never do official disbandments is so they can continue to profit off of the group's brand name and fan base even after they've become inactive.

Clean disbandment. I'm getting pretty fed up with f(x) hiatus that keeps going forever. It's not good thing to have that hope of comeback if it drags on years and never comes.

Oh definitely. SM still make quite a few bucks off SNSD's name and royalties in their quarterly revenue even though the group itself is pretty much inactive.

It honestly depends on the age of the group

Groups like Pristin and Playback should honestly just disband and get on with their lives.

Groups like Soshi and T-ara that go into SES mode, I'm not so sure about since we have little example of how a 2nd gen group does that and how often.
If it's every five or ten years, then just disband.
If it's every two or so years, then I don't mind the hiatus

Sometimes some groups go in on hitaus to do something solo, something they would like for a change tho, if they have a chance of coming back I would rather have them in a long hitaus then disbandment. Disbandment would crush me if it would for example happen to EXO
