Why can't spiders be cute (2 Viewers)

I swear most of the people afraid of spiders wouldn't mind them if they actually looked cute

Yeah, they're most definitely NOT my favourite of the wildlife. I can handle snakes, but spiders....Nope. I've held tarantulas to try and get over my fear and the warning of, "They fling irritating hairs towards your eyes and other mucus membranes" did NOT inspire confidence.

I think a big part is their random movements, it's always unknown what they are gonna do next which i can't deal with

I mean, we're hard coded to fear things like spiders because some are poisonous and therefore evolution says we need to fear something minuscule in comparison to ourselves as self preservation instinct.

Yeah true, altho i always hear that if something is green/yellow it's poisonous which still holds true for some spiders o think but they are definitely way less that fall under that spectrum

Even the cutest [I'll bite] arachnids, I wouldn't want in my house... I think praying mantis and geckos are cute, but I wouldn't want them in my house. Actually that's not true. I have had geckos in my house, but didn't mind because it barely moved and was confined to the bathroom. But I have lived places where there were rodent infestations [it sounds worse than it was. They weren't rats they were rodents that were the size of an egg] and while they were cute, waking up to them six feet from me wasn't a pleasant experience.

edit: But cute things can be dangerous and ugly things can be relatively safe. Many regard spiders as ugly and many species aren't aggressive and choose to run away as their means of first defense. In contrast, Swans; Elk; Hyenas can all pose a threat to humans, but are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Could also say Koala Bears because of their likelihood of carrying Chlamydia, but the prominent strain can't be transmitted to humans and the lesser one can only be transmitted through contact with bodily fluids, but the odds of coming across a koala bear is much less likely than a spider... unless you go to a zoo or live in an unorthodox location. For instance, I used to live in an apartment complex that had a forest behind it, so it wasn't uncommon to see deer. Same with my local internet provider store where I saw rabbits on the walkway.

Extensive exposure could help reduce negative reactions though... I know someone who frequently finds scorpions in his house. Non-poisonous scorpions. He's gotten to the point where when he says there are scorpions in the tub, in his room... its like he's saying I had a sandwich for lunch... lol

Honestly there is no real "colour" associated with toxicity/poison. Some of the most benign looking animals can be deadly.

I can tolerate spiders, that doesn't mean they're cute or that I enjoy them...except Phiddipus and I am thinking of getting myself a few Regius to start with.

Well, I have had no reason to fear them as all of the ones that are around are harmless. I have a few of them in my room, wild ones, and I try to keep them alive (not kill them by accident).
