its frustrating when artists make music i / they love but it does not sell.

its a commercial business and numbers matter.


there is a reason Luna and Amber are not at sm any more .. no matter what they did it was not commercially successful on a scale they considered acceptable.

Wendy sold really good physicals so she may get another shot but those digital numbers can not be making folks in the building happy.

we all love to support the artists but they gotta make money.

Some times it impacts my ability to be happy for em.

Ofc just coming back was an epic win but sigh.......

she did physically ( but the physical numbers for this last year are suspect for everyone because of covid ect) but for example joy's ost from last year killed this cb.
heck her ost from last month is ballpark with less time in the month.

not true they went all out on music show stages for the cb.
she was on most of teh big radio programs and is a regular on a tv show.
folks just did not listen to the music.

there is no way that Luna got the same promotion and support that Taeyeon did

I find the success bit hard to measure cause sales aren't whole truth. It's one big measure, but doesn't alone mean that the artist is profitable or that lack of charting high and selling lot of albums means company isn't going to keep trying

I don't usually pay lot of attention to charts and sales which is probably good thing for me. But I do worry when artist I like isn't doing that well.

the same does not exist. but similar does.

and fx never sold what snsd did.

Taeyeon is a bigger name but if i remember luna promoted free somebody on music shows as long as I was.

Amber got a solo album before taeyeon and had taeyeon featured. did not matter.

Yg appears to do f all and his kids sell.

True, companies do look at numbers. It's not whole truth but part of it. I don't think every soloist has to be high seller to continue their solo careers, it depends on how much effort they put in compared to company- how easy to make it for company to just let them do their thing, how much company wants to build the brand and if the soloist fits their plans etc.
