I finally truly understand why some idols are so strongly against their future kid becoming an idol (1 Viewer)

Because they know how dirty it can be. This isn't only about getting antis, not becoming famous etc. It's about being involved with these dangerous people.

It was never that clear for me. They didn't just want to protect their kids from getting hate attacks or a very long period of training with the chance to never become successful.

I'm sure many of these celebrities know exactly how dirty this business is.

All these reports in the last year - Prostitution, blackmailing, drugs, corrupt police etc. etc.. It's so easy to get involved with the wrong people.

Music business was always dirty but now we see that even Oppa can be a little criminal.

Taeyeon has stated that if she ever had children then she wouldn't want them to enter the entertainment industry. She was also against her younger sister becoming a trainee.

We can only imagine what Taeyeon has seen over her 15 years in the industry as a trainee and then as a member of SNSD to make her feel this way..

Its a hard scary and dangerous life many parents do not want their kids in.
But its is not their call for long.
That is why guys like Somi's father scare me, by many accounts she is already screwed up and she is what 17?

The entertainment industry wherever you look in the world is full of corruption and especially with how the industry works in which you need exposure to get off the ground. It is the perfect place for people who have power to use their power over someone who hasn't broken out yet.

Truthfully even before the entirety of this investigation came out and became more and more developed I've always thought the entertainment industry was a corrupt, impure, horrible place behind the scenes (for some, and by some - this isn't the case entirely or as a blanket for the industry as a whole; but it is an industry run by a LOT of money and figure heads that can and clearly have become corrupted even further than some are).

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and as others have said it's easy to get wrapped up with the wrong people.
So many are searching to be on top, to be the biggest thing, to have the fame and fortune - and even those that are doing it just because they have a passion for it, an enjoyment of it, can even unfortunately be victims of corrupt and selfish people with the aforementioned attitudes of wanting to be the biggest and best with fame and fortune behind the scenes.

I feel that some of those involved in the chats may not have been the type of people that would do such things if not influenced, but due to their weaknesses they were easily curbed. I could be wrong. But I've seen it happen in schools before with peer pressure and the want to fit in and "be cool" or "be accepted," so the thought of those individuals wanting things selfishly, or committing acts they may not have commited on their own due to their lifestyle being different and the people they associate being different, corrupts them as well (though it's clear that many are these types of individuals and any lifestyle could have lead them to these disgusting results, so please don't think my words are trying to defend anyone that is revealed to be part of this; they still did wrong, even if it was as simple as not reporting what they found in the chats).

That aside, yeah. Entertainment industries around the world are generally known to not be all the glitz and glamour they present in facades, but it's terribly unfortunate that it continues to this type of degree and can negatively impact so, so many that aren't even meaning to be connected to it.

There are plenty of wholesome and kind individuals in the industry, individuals that do it because it's their passion, their happiness, do it because the money is great but they want to build an environment to further the dreams of others while again, making the money, but not investing it in schemes or bad business deals that are shady and under the table, and there are plenty of people in the industry that aren't out simply to gain solely for themselves or for the money and fame; but as we all know, there are plenty that are the complete opposite as well. Luckily, it seems some of them are getting exposed, even if not being charged with the full extent of crimes they may have committed. The negative stigma that comes with this case has already ruined a few, and even if justice isn't served with jail time, it's definitely been served with a forever-tarnished reputation with fans and the general public's condemnation.

By most accounts the casting couch has not yet gone away its just handled differently.
They had several folks get busted last year and it is always just a fraction of what goes on.
Its like bribes to some its a part of business and decades of pressure has failed to make a dent.

This may illustrate how far there is still to go.
On the first day of orientation for new teachers it is common practice now to ask if the kids want to be teachers so they can have sex with students.
Like on a handout with check boxes its crazy.

There's literally no good reason to become an idol. The chance that you even get from audition to debut is slim at best, then add in all of the other factors like predatory or abusive people in the industry, trainee debt, companies that are just so poorly managed they might as well be held together with staples and duct tape, a public that is unfriendly to anything that doesn't come from a small handful of known brands, the negative physical, mental and emotional impact of constant training and promotions, and the extremely brief shelf life of even a very successful idol career, all for a chance to live out a dream that you had before you were even old enough to know what all of the other options were, based on the unlikelihood that somehow you will end up among the very small number of idols that manage to make an actual career out of it beyond the few years that your group is relevant, if it ever even achieves relevance in the first place - it's actually insanity.

That.

I would love it if these things would never happen but I'm not living in a bubble.

There were criminals in the past, now, and there will be criminals in the future.

Even when they manage to save their ass, they will always be outed as that what they really are: criminals.

That is why its a dream. A hope. For a select few, just like sports.
