“Jung Ilhoon has received a prison sentence for purchasing and using marijuana.

On June 10, Jung Il Hoon’s sentencing hearing was held at the Seoul Central District Court. He was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 133 million won (approximately $119,200) for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc., and he was taken under custody.

Jung Ilhoon was brought to trial for suspicions of purchasing and smoking 826 grams (approximately 1.8 pounds) of marijuana using approximately 130 million won (approximately $116,500) across 161 instances between July 5, 2016 and January 9, 2019 together with seven other defendants. Depending on the number of instances they smoked marijuana, the seven other defendants received varied sentences between one year and six months through two years or a suspended sentence.

The court stated, “The defendants communicated through the dark web in order for their crime to not be easily detected, and they used elaborate criminal methods such as making transactions with the cryptocurrency bitcoin.”

Regarding Jung Ilhoon and another defendant Park, the court said, “The two defendants played leading roles and carried out the criminal acts the highest number of times.”

Jung Ilhoon enlisted as a public service worker in May 2020 and withdrew from BTOB in December 2020. Last month, the prosecution requested four years in prison with a fine, and his confirmed sentence of two years in prison with a fine was announced today.”

Its rly harsh sentence for being first timer (even if he used lot this is first time being prosecuted) and for using drug. I'm against drug use unless its for medical purposes but I think rehabilition is right way not jail time unless the person was selling or producing drugs for others.

I know drug usage and purchase is easier to prove in court with all the paper trail but getting a longer sentence for smoking weed over what Hara's ex did is

true, the law in korea is a joke in itself. even that ft island dude got his sentence reduced to 2,5 years. now i'm not condoning drug use or whatever but smoking weed is in no way comparable to sexual assault.

its the paper trail.
and the just messed up nature of all abuse type cases. let alone she was dead and could not advocate for her self which sadly works against the victim.

and it looks like the shear number of times they documented it made em a bit crazy.

Since most law breaking is only caught or prosecuted a small fraction of the times committed.

Like one speeding ticket is what ever but 150 in 2 years...
